    Hi all,

I’ve got a Hotpoint WMA37N machine that’s recently developed a fault I haven’t been able to find info on anywhere.

When starting a cycle (any wash cycle), the drum will start to fill with water, as normal. Then, when it would normally turn the drum over a couple of times (presumably to get all the clothes wet), it instead spins up to high speed for a couple of seconds then stops abruptly. It does this a couple of times then goes silent and appears to just quit the programme – i.e. the ‘wash’ ‘rinse’ and ‘spin’ lights go on.

The water inlets seem fine, and the pump out works. I’ve also tried an empty load, same result. Any ideas? Like I said, I haven’t seen this mentioned elsewhere so any help welcomed!

    Cheers
    Avi

p.s. the machine is just over 5 years old so no chance of Hotpoint fixing it cheap.

No speed control – computer shuts down the motor.

Remove front of machine and repair broken/chafed wiring around the concrete block is the usual solution. When finished, secure loom in such a way that there is no slack wiring flapping about under the drum, and that the excess is tucked into the corner of the casing.

I have to do this three of four times a week on the WMA range – very poor assembly from Hotpoint.

    Power off, of course.

    Re: Hotpoint WMA37 – Strange Problem…

Update – just to let you know, the problem was due to chafed wiring. The loom between the motor and the motor connector had been catching on a support strut; I replaced a section of wire that had worn through, and all was well again.

Thanks again for your help! Just a thought, if this is a common problem would it be worth highlighting in a sticky/FAQ somewhere?

    Cheers

TBH, If we posted sticky/FAQ’s on all common problems for all manufacturers it would run to a huge number of pages. :rolls:

The ‘Search’ facilty is the best compromise. 🙂
