I went to look at this machine about 2 months ago but the part I ordered was on special order so it did not arrive until this week. The door wont close and I found there was a broken spring. There is a 3 sided sheet metal part which pivots about it’s bottom edge. When you press in the door handle that piece moves inward, opening the door and releasing the microswitch button. I didn’t see how it was fitted but the broken spring must pull the 3 sided metal piece outward to shut the door. The part I ordered was 1840378, door latch mechanism. I didn’t know what parts would come with this but it does not include the spring I need or the metal part or it’s pivot pin. I fitted all the parts that came with the kit except for an item they call an omega spring. I’m sure the broken spring was an ordinary wire type spring but I’m wondering if this omega spring is a substitute for the broken one. Trouble is, I can’t figure out how to fit it. 😕

Looking on Partfinder there are two springs, a return spring (1804285) and a Latch Spring (part OBSOLETE) 🙁 The latch spring looks like a very conventional coiled spring with a hook on each end. Apart from that I have never come across one of these machines…sorry. 🙁

Thanks Martin. I went back and tried fitting a spring from a washer front door seal wire but it’s too heavy. The door now shuts and the machine will run but it’s too hard to open the door. Usually you can see where there are holes for the spring hooks but not on this so it’s all very frustrating I will have to try a lighter spring.
It’s so annoying that they list a kit which you would expect to contain the parts needed but does not and then they discontinue the parts not in the kit. If they had just made all the parts obsolete I would not have attempted the repair. Now I’ve spent so long on the job that I really need to get it right to justify the size of bill. 🙁

It’s the old Thompson machine, which is now Brandt and is the same as one of the Diplomat/Hygena machines. Can’t work out which one with the info I’ve got, sorry 🙁 .

Sorry, That TinyUrl conversion didn’t work, Google Europart Loging and enter the Model Number. It shows a spring kit.

Thanks Goose 😀 I don’t have an account with Maddocks but hopefully I might be able to purchase the item.
