Smeg DWF 66 Dishwasher – Is it me?

OK, I worked out what the Electrical banging was. When the machine was assembled, the soap dispenser had been fitted with the seal poking through into the void in the door. The result was that water would get in there and turn to steam misting up the controls. The rinse-aid low level lamp is illuminated by a reed switch situated under the reservoir. This was getting wet and tracking to earth. The heat generated by the short circuit would evaporate the water causing the short and the machine would then continue until the steam condensed again and caused a short.

So, I have fixed all that and the machine works, well sort of. It will work for about an hour and then stop the timer light will go out for about a second and then it will ‘click’ like a relay has tripped and run for a second or two and then stop again. It will do this about half a dozen times and then continue to the end of the wash.

Is this normal I really cant say if it has always done this as I have not been keen on sitting there watching it while it is working – at least with a washing machine there is something to watch – Is this normal or is something else wrong with it?
