I changed a WMA door seal today. The clamp was the new type with the hooks on a ratchet. How on earth are you supposed to tighten it? Is there a special tool? Any suggestions appreaciated.

I tend to use a pair of pliers to hold one end and a screwdriver then to tighten the band up.
They are a pain to tighten and thats from someone who works for indesit.

I don’t find those clamps on Hotpoint machines much bother, usually use long nosed pliers, its the ones on the Indesit machines with the full wrap round cabinet that are a PITA. I have a pair of hook nosed pliers for them.

until they snap off! Cannot belive Indesit do not have a specific tool for these. I assemble them quite tightly and stretch them on then pinch up with the pliers. As Jim said, not so easy on the Indesit versions.

Yes they’re quite simple to compress using long nose pliers. And made even simpler if you use a little washing-up liquid and water around the door boot lip first! 😉

Nice and slippy does it 😆

Thanks for all the replies. The idea of using washing up liquid sounds a good un.

However, the seal I used ( a genuine Hotpoint one ) was covered in some sort of mineral oil, maybe to assist fitting.

All above good ideas but personally never had any problems usually 15-20 minutes in out and tested. I use small flat blade to unclip and long nose pilers to tighten up 😀

the best ones to get are bent long nose pliers, you get more pressure, there is a hopoint tool for it but it breaks after a few uses!!
