Hi, have got a indesit widl 126 washer / dryer, and it appers the dryer part is not producing any heat, so nothing getting dried, just stopped !!! Have tried using the washing machine today, and does not appear to be heating up the water. Anyone any ideas. Thanks in advance.

The heater for drying is different to that for washing so the 2 faults are probably not related. If the washer is not heating I would generally expect the machine to stick on wash and never continue on to the rinses. Is this what’s happening?

Hi, thanks for responding. The machine is not sticking on wash. I have assumed the washer is not heating up the water,as when it was on wash, I could not feel any heat from the door at all, so perhaps I have got that wrong.
The tumble dryer is definatly not producing any heat, the drum goes round as if all is OK, but washing not dried at all. Thanks.

Just ran the washing machine through on a hot wash, and the water is heating up, so problem is just with the tumble dryer. Any thoughts anyone. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You need a test meter and the knowledge to use it. The dryer heating elements and safety fuses fail regularly – you need to perform a resistance test looking for a reading in the order of 20-25 ohms when the heater is split from the circuit. The safety fuse should read virtually no resistance. If you can’t do this, you should get some professional help – guessing what might be wrong can prove to be an expensive way of repairing an appliance.
Power off if you plan to investigate this yourself.

Hi, thanks for that, my husband had the top and back off the machine last night. After looking at your post this morning, he said he could not see anything that looked like a safety fuse, can you point us in the direction of where to look. He has a test meter, so feel OK about him investigating. Thanks once again.

If you trace the wires from the heater element you should see they go to small round or square devices mounted nearby. These devices will be either control thermostats or thermal fuses. Each of these will show a short circuit meter reading if working, open circuit if failed. You need to remove one connection from any pair of terminals before testing with the ohm meter or you will get misleading results.

Hi,
Have a similar problem with my WIDL126, no heat on the drying cycle.
Have a reading of 40 Ohms across the heating element, which seems higher than normal (?) but not suggesting its broken.
Can’t locate any fuses or similar for the heating system however. With the top off, in the back right corner there’s a white, square plug which connects to the heating gubbins.
Forward on the right there’s a round device that is not directly connected to the heater. What am I looking for?
Machine is just under 3 years old, looks very clean inside though I have not removed the cover to the heating element yet.

Do’h I think I found it….its the inline brown-shielded cable? That has a thermal device under the shielding and its got infinate resistance. New part £12 and I can replace it in a minnute 🙂

Thermal fuses do go for no reason but normally you should check the condensor box and fluff filter for blockages.

Oh yes, My indesit typically behaves like this. so how can I sort this issues ??? 😳

If you take the back off you will find the heater terminals toward the bottom at the back of the outer drum. The resistance can be checked as described by Penguin earlier in this thread. If you get an infinity reading you know that the heater has blown.
