Just spoken to this customer on the phone, machine showing F11. Fault code guide says comms error.

Is this likely to be poor connections or something more serious?

    Jim.

Hi, try connections on ribbon cable between timer and control module. If no joy…new timer/power board

Had a look at this today, an ominous burning smell when lid was removed. A spin of the drum and the death rattle from a knackered commutator was evident.

What is the chance of this just needing a motor given the error message was F11, could it have goosed the electronics.? 😥

hard to say but its sounds like the F11 is from the lack of tacho action. if you have a motor, no harm in plugging one in. If its coming up with f11, it sounds like the timer is ok. cheers

Don’t do a lot of Whirlpool so do not have the luxury of a spare motor. 😥

    Decisions, decisions. 😕

    Jim,
F11 means that you have problem with motor/choper module or no communication between main microcontroler and motor (choper) microcontroler.

From yours words (smeling) something is damaged. Motor (which is DC) always take with him choper module but sometimes can survive… Main board allways survive in this case…

Hi Adrian, motor has gone, a section out on the commutator, waiting for the customer to contact me now that she knows the cost of the motor alone. 😥

Would any damage on the chopper PCB be visible?

    Jim.

    Re: Whirlpool AWM8163 F11

Not necessary :bounce: … and normally there is instead of one triacs one IGB-Transistor & one diode. I don’t know surely what is there because I didn’t meet one Whirl. with chopped motor… but I think that’s not different by all others (Aeg, Siemens, Miele, Gorenje…) :lesson: …
Like an encouragement  : I have found just one IGBT blown and that from repairer fault… more often relays are going out… and motor microcontroller gives an signal who told that is in error…(has protection for overload current)… 😉

Just to update, a new motor cured the problem, both PCB’s fine. 😀
