Saw this appliance today the evaporator is tottally iced up, dont think defrost heater is coming on. There are two defrost elements in parallel the bottom element (in glass tube) looks burnt at both ends. elements 75Kohms TOC 95Kohms.
Unable to meter out individual elements as contacts have plastic moulding on them.
Has anyone else had this problem with the defrost heater unit and what is it like getting parts for this make as havn’t really worked on them before?May 5, 2008 at 3:55 pm #251323ELDAR59

this is a fairly common problem, the defrost heaters being the most likely cause.
they’re in series though, not parallel. the terminals are located at the top of the evaporator on a little piece of what looks like mica board.
the readings you give seem a little high, normally they go o/c, although i had one the other week where the readings were very high.
the part no for the heaters on this model is 61002102.
the defrost stat should read through when cold and be about 250k ohms when warm.
there is also a defrost timer located in the top of the fridge, behind the thermostat housing. these are normally reliable.
any one, or even any combination of the above cold be causing you problems.

well it would help with the parts identification, you’d have to give maytag uk a call for the bits.
that’s a us based site, but as you say, very handy.cheers.

Hi
The GC20 is the slimmwer of the freezer sections and should be the 61002101 part number alf ?.
If needed I have about 10 sets still in stock.

the c6c would be the slimmer model bryan, this is the c7c, which takes the longer heaters, 2102.
