The timer won’t be an issue – the most likely culprit is the electronic board down at the bottom. This controls motor function and heat among other things. Check for burnt joints around relays and worn edge connectors. Given the age of the machine, it will be worth checking the drive motor carbon brush gear at the same time – they do wear out.
