Procter & Gamble is testing a concept called the Tide Wash Club which is a subscription based service for laundry detergent delivered to your door that is similar to other such concepts available these days.
The trial of the concept has been rolled out in the Atlanta area in the USA and there’s no clue if we will ever see this in the UK as yet but, we’d not be surprised if it were to be seen here.
Although it’s still a test or concept thing customers in the US who click on the Tide Wash Club website are being encouraged to sign up for the brand’s email list to find out when P&G will begin serving their areas. Which would suggest that P&G intend to roll this out if they get enough take up on it.
The Tide Wash Club includes free shipping for Tide Pods that are delivered every two or three months depending the subscription plan that fits the laundry routine of consumers, according to P&G.
With the onset of Amazon getting into this sort of thing and their Dash buttons in the States for reordering detergents and other stuff Amazon flogs it’s hardly a shock that some of the bigger players would move into this arena.
After all, it save forgetting it at the supermarket and carrying it about.
At least that’s the good points, the bad one is that you then cannot price compare or get the cheapest deals at the moment you happen to be shopping. Will it be cheaper than doing that, who knows.
Another bad point is that it would seem to be an attempt to lock people into the service and keep on using P&G products so, don’t be shocked to see future deals with a “free” month or six as long as you sign up and hand over your bank details or sign a direct debit for this kind of stuff.
The plan does however allow people to pause or cancel the regularly scheduled delivery of Tide Pods at any time or change their plan so if you do get a deal down in Asda or whatever, you can at least put it on hold for a bit.
But it has been reported that in the US P&G is ramping up marketing for Gillette and its other brands due to growing competition from web-based sales.
So as we said, it’s hardly a shock to see the like of P&G go down this road.
