Large Chinese appliance manufacturer Haier is said to be investing about ten million dollars into a wine app we presume for use in their appliances and suspect primarily wine cabinets and possibly fridge freezers.

Haier gets into selling wineThe app called 9KaCha can recognise wine labels using its database and the company intends to work with wine distributors along with specialised wine sellers to offer owners the ability to reorder wine from the app for delivery.

All people have to do is take a photo of the wine bottle label and the app can pull up some information on the wine as well as the ability to order it.

No doubt Haier gets a ka-ching from Ka Cha overtime a user orders through the app.

So far we are only aware of this being touted for use in China itself but don’t be surprised if this and similar services turn up in Europe as appliance manufacturers look for new ways to chase down profits from appliance sales.

With rising sales of wines across the world and wine cabinets to keep those wine in it’s hardly surprising the appliance manufacturers look for ways to cash in on it beyond the sale of the wine cabinet.

Recently Electrolux also bought Vintec a specialist wine cabinet producer and we wouldn’t even be slightly surprised if a global player like Electrolux or Whirlpool also went down this road too.
