Irish trade union SIPTU are to take strike action at the Glen Dimplex manufacturing plant in Newry in Northern Ireland on Thursday in a dispute over wages.

Glen Dimplex company logoIt is reported that there are about 120 members of the trade union employed at the Glen Dimplex plant in Newry.

The company makes electric heaters and other appliances but we know them best for their cooking products and so on under the brands of Stoves, Belling and New World primarily. You can learn more about the company in the manufacturer section of the website.

SIPTU organiser Denis Sheridan said negotiations between workers and staff had been ongoing for some time and the failure to find a solution to the issues was unfortunate.

“As a result, the workers believe they have no option but to implement strike action from 7.45 am on Thursday, August 18, until 7.30am on Friday August 19,” he said.

“This work stoppage is the first of several planned for the coming weeks and is in addition to an ongoing work-to-rule campaign at the plant which includes a ban on overtime and call outs.”

SIPTU shop steward Alan Clark said union members would be available for ‘meaningful’ talks the management at any time.

“Glen Dimplex is a profitable company and it is only fair that the workers who produce its high quality heating and other products are rewarded in an acceptable manner for their work,” he said.

So far we are not aware that this will affect any of the large appliances that the company produces.
