Cooker manufacturer Glen Dimplex has fallen into the red after seeing sales fall by almost a fifth. The company, which employs more than 1,000 people in Prescot near Liverpool, is confident it can develop new products to help it weather the recession.
Newly-filed accounts at Companies House show Glen Dimplex Home Appliances (GDHA) reported a turnover of £133.7m in the year to March 31, 2009 ““ a fall of 19.3% on the previous year’s figure of £165.6m.
It reported a loss for the year of £1.4m after reporting a £7.6m profit the previous year.
GDHA produces cookers, ranges and ovens under the Stoves, Belling and New World brands. It is part of the Irish Glen Dimplex group.
In July, 2008, GDHA chief executive Denver Hewlett told LDP Business said sales had been hit by the recession and said GDHA was also being affected by rising material costs.
The latest accounts say: “It is the intention of directors to continue to develop the principal activities of the company and to identify areas with further growth potential, particularly the enlarged refrigeration division.
“The company is engaged in ongoing research and development work in order to improve its product range and to increase its market share.”
