ParticipantHi there, new here looking for some guidance.
I have a Hotpoint TC71 tumble dryer, its starts fine and runs for a random amount of time sometimes 10mins sometimes an hour then it will just stop and start ticking from the back, on the right hand side.
But then leave it for half an hour and it’ll run again!
Any advice would be great,
Thanks for your time

Classic sypmptoms of start relay failure – you need one of THESE.
Ticking noise is the heater cooling down. Don’t keep running it, as you’re likely to trip the safety thermostat.
Power off if you intend to do this yourself.

Hi there, replaced the start relay but no luck still does the same.
Runs for a random amount of time (sometimes 10mins sometimes an hour) and then stops and starts ticking.
Timer keeps running, turn timer to zero ticking stops, turn back to any time setting and press start the ticking starts again.
Leave it for a while and then try again it will start to work correctly again.
Could it be an overheating problem as it seems to be when its cooled down it will work again.
thanks again for any help.

when the tc71 starts to play up like you have described then you would be looking to replace the reverse timer on the right hand side ( as you look at appliance from the front ) at the bottom. take off the right panel and it is at the back on the base. you have replaced the relay which would have been my first bet aswell so i would defo try the rev timer.failing that the main timer is faulty but very unlikely.
