The bearings on my rather old (more than 5 years) wma33 have given up.
Which I guess is not surprising with four kids etc.

However money is tight and a new machine is not something we can jump too.
I’ve replaced bearings before in previous machines with some success but never tried on this hotpoint.
Access to the main shaft is ok and the nut and main wheel came off easily however is looks like the whole front of the machine will have to come off as the sides and back are all one piece.

I’ve seen the bearing kits about and I’ve also seen reference to a “spider”

Is a new spider required as well as the bearing kit?

Do you have any advice other than the obvious “don’t do it”

    Cheers

    depends

    the front does come off

you need to take off the lid, the fascia

2 screws top of panel, 2 at bottom
the drom suspension pins will come out if you depess the pip and pull out the pin

un hook the door seal and remove the weights
the drum will then come out

its not a bad job.. just time consuming, a spider isnt always necessary

theres 2 bearing kits as well, 35 and 30mm, ull need to measure the shaft size

much better machine than anything hotpoint churn out now, so well worth it

and id be writin the wiring down as wee, so you dont get caught out

    and, of course, plug out!!!!

    good luck

you wont be able to tell if you need a spider until you have taken it apart

Many thanks for the advice, I’ll have a crack at it tomorrow and see how I get on.

The way I see it is I’ve little to lose in at least trying.

    Thanks again.

BTW, plug came out days ago 😀

If its over 5 years old it will be 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain to have the 35mm bearings and not the smaller 30mm ones.

    Re: Hotpoint WMA33 bearing

Bought the spider, seal and bearings from Whitegoods and they arrived today.

When I removed the old bearing, which was in a right state, I also retrieved a large spring that sat between the large bearing and the seal.
Having inserted the bearing there appears to be little room to fit the spring in the same position.

I guess it might push into the seal when I drift it home but I just thought I’d check here before I bugger the seal doing something I needn’t.

    Cheers

Throw the spring away, its part of the old style seal that caused the failure in the first place.
