Sharp isn’t a name that most people would think on when you mention appliances but the brand does seem intent on getting in on the appliance action, such as it is with a ninja fridge no less.

Sharp karakuri ninja fridge freezerIn a bit of a strange move the company has released information on its upcoming line of appliances for the European market (we presume the UK as well) just ahead of the LivingKitchen appliance show in Cologne, Germany.

Okay so getting back to the ninja fridge which is a sort of variation on the side by side American style idea, Sharp says that it is inspired by science fiction and ninja drawer stuff the theme being that the Karakuri style is a similar style of door used to hide ninjas only in this instance it hides the water dispenser and stuff.

There’s a nifty ice maker that can be set to dispense different sizes of ices cubes and some other stuff but in the end, it keeps your food cold or frozen as does most fridge freezers.

On the upside it does look as if Sharp (or Vestel) have managed to resist the temptation to slap a big tablet on the front and connect ti to the internet so, that’s good.

It looks nice enough but we don’t know who’s actually making it as all the EU Sharp stuff so far is made or has been made by Vestel for them under license in effect making Sharp an own label brand but that may not be set in stone now as there’s a bit of a debate there. But we think this is Vestel built so, parts and service may prove to be a complete nightmare.

No doubt it will be known as the “Ninja Fridge” in the trade though.

To get back on track though, Sharp have also said that they are to introduce a new steam assisted oven with some electronic control thingy in it that has more than a hundred and fifty preset auto cooking options that look to be accessed via a touch screen. This is bad, we don’t like those and if you need that many cooking options you really ought to break out the cookbooks you got for Christmas rather than use this sort of thing.

Sharp built in ovenOther than that we don’t really see a lot that’s special here or much different from many others.

Then there’s some dishwashers which, as is the norm with press releases these days, are claimed to be super efficient “polar bear friendly” planet saving green things that will save you loads of electricity. Only, that’s not really true, they’re much the same as most others.

The washing machine piqued our interest as, for a start it’s most probably just another Vestel in a fancy dress but this one can apparently pre-heat the water before it fills. Although we’ve no details on this it seems logical that the only way you can do this is to use a tank of some sort and another heater, which seems more than a little needless and just gives you something else to break but no doubt some people will buy into the idea.

Trouble is, it may well reduce the effectiveness of many detergents that are designed to work on a temperature curve meaning you get worse wash results but then, what do we know.

Aside that and some funky variation on a delay timer (that we advise against all the time) we don’t really see much that’s all that special here although Sharp do seem rather pleased with themselves.
