This motor has been eating brushes every 18 months or so. I last renewed them in May, then got called today to “no spin” fault. It seemed to work OK to me but motor was sparking a bit excessively. Decided to remove it and give it a much needed clean-up. Noticed that after removing brushes there was a slight resistance and ticking sound from tacho end.
Anyway took it apart and cleaned it all but on re-assembly the ticking/clicking sound is worse. It’s nothing to do with the commutator because I haven’t got the brushes back in yet. It’s not the bearing which is OK. The shim and the spring washer are both back in where they came from.
I’m sure one or two of you can tell me exactly what is going on here and what the sound is and how I can sort it, saving me having to struggle for hours to figure it out myself.
