Could be a broken spring inside the door assy. The door can be removed via the hinge and split in two to check spring.

was the original red and the new white? if so the plug requires turning the other way round. Unplug before checking.

I thought that was a fairly accurate description of how the spring can be located , 😉 😆
Take out the two screws holding the hinge and then remove the screws around the door and prise it open with a thin bladed screwdriver.
Colours are correct for latest door lock, plug has to be reversed.

Hi
i have checked the door and spring is ok not broken
after all this i have just been informed by my other half that when the washer was working there was a bang ??so i have just removed the front panel of the washer and there is black marks on the board looks like something has gone bang (behind the door programme switch)
so i think this will be reason for the flashing lights?i have heard that hotpoint do a 5 years parts replacement would the circuit board be included?
thanks for all the answers and sorry for not explaining the cause of this problem thats women for you

All parts are covered for five years, the labour will cost you a fraction under £100.00 though. 😥
The door lock will have blown the module.
