Can i ask where you got this one from as it the excect same one as a friend has been designing and building on for last 2-3 years and was in talks which large company while back..

My friends Tony clifton and Geoff clake designed the same item belive they may have mentioned it on here before but cant find any post about it i know that they had patent applied for on it, just seems strange it appeared on here, they designed two the other is hydraulic powered hand held size with so far 8 different adaptors for most bearing sizes.

just this week iv been out looking at some hydraulic press
for bearing removal what iv seen is to narrow to to get the drums in line.
looking at it these preses are usually used for motor car hub bearings
it could certainly be adapted. if one of these have been designed and made? it would be great.
iv have been thinking of purchasing a 18v cordless impact driver seen it working to do the job” especially with the wma bearing tool 2edition
to many bits with it

hydraulic one has been designed and prototype has been made, ive used it and belive me it best bit of kit i’ve used to remove bearings, at the moment they designed for all hotpoint and zanussi machines,but are still playing with it as still needs quiet a bit of adjustment,you can change adapotors very easily and quicking and the bearings fire out so still needs some tweaks to it… i know they are still trying to find Interest in it and see if other engineers would use such item.

over the past 38years iv had to make my own special tools or adapt others.
remember the old hpt drum locking tool
one wrong move and your skin is in pieces”
iv made few of these over time and supplied them to several brother engineers 🙂
this one saves your skin and bending round the drum to hold it. also adapts to10mm punch with a 2lb hammer strike .
those bearings come flying out even knock the race out if its stuck.

From the pics it looks like you’ll need to apply quite a bit of force on that nut and bolt what with the way many shells get stuck in. Think I’ll be sticking with my more tried and tested methodology.

It’s actually not too bad Mike. The bearing shell has to be really, really stuck to present a problem as you get an even pull instead of thumping away at it off kilter as it were.
I used one of these sorts of kits a while back a lot for the likes of the old Hotpoints and the Zanussi plastic tanks and it meant you could pull the shell out no problem without damaging the back half.
For a lot of people the difference will be between getting the job or not if you’re quoting a set of bearings at a few quid against a back half that will usually be over £60, it’s a big difference.
I think Connect pay a £25 bonus if you do bearings without using a rear tank (which is a good thing), or they used to as well so, even for contract work, an extra ten minutes to earn £25 ain’t too bad IMO. It’s grim if you have to spend an extra 20-30 minutes whacking hell out a tank though and, TBH, it looks rubbish in the customer’s eyes.
Three of those and you’re in profit!
I dunno, each to his own I guess but I’d rather use a tool and not be banging away at a tank if possible, makes my life easier.

I’m sure it’s a wonderful tool, don’t get me wrong. But when the going gets tough you’ll still need your special chisel/drift and some heat to get a really stuck shell to start moving so don’t leave it at home!
Mike.Hi, used a bearing tool to remove bearings a few times, found there is more scope to mess them up.
I have found that when pressing the bearings in with tools like this its possible to push them in not far enough in the housing so they dont run smoothly.
How do you judge when the bearings are tight against the housing?Never had a recall bashing them in.

This one doesn’t push them in, just gets the shells out. 😉
The bashing was in reference to getting them out as well.

I always smear a drop of oil on the new bearings to make them go in easier. On the few machines where I’ve changed bearings twice it also makes the job much easier the second time round, a few years down the line.

Oh well, if the welded tub becomes standard fit across the board as seems likely we dont need to worry anymore.. seen yet another zanussi sealed drum at the end of its life this week.
A well used machine it must be said, but still just 3 yrs old, bearing rumble well established, skip fodder within the month i would say :rolls:
