The machine (Zanussi FL884) has an intermittent fault. When using a rinse hold program, the programmer has to be turned to position “F” to empty and spin the load. However, instead of doing that, sometimes it simply tumbles slowly for about 10 mins, and advances to program end with the water still in the machine, and no spin. I have also seen a program without rinse hold, do exactly the same, leaving the machine full of water, and no spin. To overcome the problem, I turn the program control around to position F, and re-start until I hear the usual emptying sounds, and the machine will then spin and complte successfully. The programmer was replaced about 4-5 years ago, the capacitor about 3 years ago, and the door interlock about 2. Any advice on where to look for the fault would be much appreciated.

i would be checking the filter or the pump plug out first.

It’ll have an old, tired drain pump in it. They wear and can become intermittant. One of THESE would be a cheap and sensible investment if you wish to keep the old girl going.

Thanks for that. I suspect you are right. I stood in front of the machine as it reached the emptying/spin phase, and heard an ominous click as if a component (ie – the pump) had been switched on but refused to work. Will dismantle and check it out.
