Participanthi hope you can help, i have just aquired an electra awm1100b eco 2nd hand washer. Im a plumber by trade and wondered that with a little assistance we could fix it.
ok plugged/plumbed it in, selected the first program ‘A’ and switched machine on. the power light indicator came on and then nothing.
i then manually moved the program selection dial around to each individual program to see if it would do anything at the begining of each program but still nothing.
have tested main power coming into machine and ok.
ive checked the door switch – ok
ive checked solanoids – ok
there are no signs of electrical damage on pcb or near componentsshould i be hearing a ticking noise from this timer? as it is silent.
please help :0)

The Electra ‘brand’ was made by many different manufacturers for the old Electricity Boards.
Yours is possibly a Philips/Whirlpool machine.
Motor brushes would be the first thing to check, unplugged of course. 😉

A picture of the motor would have been better, 😉
I am more conversant with the Hoover/Hotpoint/Creda/Zanussi made, Electra branded machines TBH.
I am not sure if any of the Whirlpool, Servis or other manufacturers used three phase motors. It may even be a very old type induction motor.
Whatever it is, its quite an old machine now.

a picture of the washing machine would be better.if it has no brushes and a v belt it is either a servis or a whirlpool the door lock might be faulty i dont know any way of checking it without replacing it.

ok ive put the machine back into ready to use order, motor back, water/power etc and removed the door lock to manually activate it.
the door lock acts as expected when it is ‘fooled’ into making.
the safety solanoid lock within the door lock activates, but the machine still sits waiting and doing nothing :0(any help gratefully received

So the door locks and nothing happens?
Take a picture of the printed circuit board for us.
If the board has 2 large white resistors on it then these are the next thing to check.
Power off!

that sounds right tim i thought it was one of the older machines with the 8 tags on the bottom but its more likely the usual servis door locks but nothing else pcb fault.

2 Large white Ceramic resistors to left of Aluminium heatsink.
Values are printed on them, use a multimeter to check resistance of both.April 19, 2009 at 1:53 am #283333sparkes81

hi checked both resistors, they are both rated 6.2kohm
and both register 5.6kohm on my meter :0)

You really need to unsolder 1 side of each resistor to get an accurate reading, you don’t know whats connected in parallel to them.
But going on what you said they aren’t open circuit. -
