Hi – I need new drum bearings on a LG WM1290FHB – is it worth doing? I once had to replace the bearings on a hotpoint….after spending 4 hours pulling the thing to bits decided I would never get that back together without leaks and a cup full of spare parts so bought a new one….much to Mrs Scruffmonkeys delight and continuous reminder! Is the LG easier? Do I need special tools…or should I take a trip to Comet now!

Don’t take this the wrong way, please. If you couldn’t deal with the bearings on a Hotpoint, you have no chance with an LG.

If you like the machine and want to keep it, get help.

The bearings themselves weren’t the problem on the hotpoint….getting to them was….I had to literally pull the whole machine to bits to take the drum out as no rear access so had to take the front off….the LG has rear access….which sounds far easier to me.

ok – have removed the back and pulley. rusty water has been leaking from the drum….looks like the bearings have forced a 5 mm hole through the plastic drum – its got shards of metal sticking out…doesn’t look healthy.

I am guessing these have 2 sets of bearings??? in which case the outer one looks intact but the inner one is well busted. I don’t plan on going any further…looks like a job for someone with the right tools…if its that damaged then not going to be easy to remove from the shaft or the drum…is it worth it?
