This is a new one, Samsung are trialling showing ads on people’s Family Hub smart fridges, and they cannot be disabled by users, it is being reported.

It’s a bit mad, and we suspect that owners will not be filled with joy at the prospect of their fridge freezer, which they paid thousands to buy, suddenly displaying adverts while they munch a snack in the kitchen.

It isn’t a good advert (we didn’t do that on purpose) for Samsung as the internet has gone a bit nuts on this news with owners reporting on Reddit that ads are appearing as tiles or panels on the fridge’s main “cover screen” after a software update and those users, well, they ain’t amused about it, Understandably as this was not the case when they bought the appliance and has been changed without their knowledge or consent, or so it’s said.

We’d suspect, though, that this or the potential for it to happen was buried on the T&Cs of use that nobody ever reads.

This has turned up in several podcasts, news feeds and some videos, including this one that does include some harsh language, you’ve been warned before you watch it as many people involved with R2R etc are passionate about the topic:
