No Samsung Parts

We picked up on a letter from a reader to the Guardian newspaper this morning about a problem with availability of a spare part used on what is described as a £1700 washing machine so, at that price it has to be one of the connected ones.

What is particularly stark in this instance is that it seems Samsung think it to be acceptabel that they cannot repair an eighteen month old washing machine costing as much as this one, £1700 just to reinforce that, due to not having a spare part.

We and, we think most reasonable people, will regard this as downright appalling.

Happily in this case, apparently after The Guardian contacted Samsung they managed to find the part required and repaired the machine but will others be as lucky?

The reason that we are highlighting this instance is to once again make it known to people that manufacturers have no legal obligation to make spare parts available whatsoever, none at all. And that some manufacturers or brands are utterly appalling when it comes to after sales service and support but it’s really up to you to investigate before you part with any cash.

We strongly urge people to research before buying any appliances using the manufacturer section to find out the general opinion of the trade and especially the people that source parts and repair the machines and if need to ask in the forums for advice.

After all, you wouldn’t want to spend £1700 on an all singing and dancing connected washing machine only throw the machine you bought away in less than two years would you?

Or indeed to live with it busted for a month or more while a part was obtained.
