Areclik, better known as Beko in the UK, has shut down its refrigeration plant in Rayon, Thailand as part of a program to reduce costs and improve efficiency due to shrinking demand.

Production is to be moved to other plants and the company say that ths wil have no effect on production volumes etc.

The closure means the termination of 411 workers at the plant, with the company expecting to pay and has allocated around $3 million for severance and notice compensation.

Arcelik has emphasised that this is a restructuring step and is intended to enhance efficiency and is part of an ongoing realignment of its operations globally.

The plant, opened in 2015 with a $100 million investment, had an annual output of 500,000 refrigerators and exported to 46 countries. It stopped production on 1st December 2025.

Turkey’s white goods sector seems to be under pressure from weakening domestic and international demand. In the first half of 2025, domestic appliance sales in Turkey declined by 8% year over year, while exports fell by 5%.

Arcelik reported ₺379.26 billion ($8.96 billion) in revenue for the first nine months of 2025, a decline of more than 5% compared to the same period the previous year, reportedly due to rising costs and softer global demand, although we suspect that the rise of Chinese competition will not be helping there.

Whilst we’ve seen reports of Arcelik or Beko having some financial issues, it’s not been anything major or that we considered worthy of reporting here but as part of a wider picture on the industry it is interesting how both huge Turkish producers, Vestel and Beko, seems to be now the ones under pressure after dominating the low to middle end of the market for the past couple of decades or so.
