You may have noticed the “Network DASA” forum at the bottom of the forums. I was asked to put this there for the benefit of the proposed new network at the DASA Council meeting in Peterborough a few days ago and there is no access to it other than the working group for that endevour for the moment.

More details will be forthcoming over the coming weeks and a formal presentation will be made at the DASA AGM in October. One of the reasons you should be planning to go to the AGM!

Stay tuned for more as it happens! 😉

I have already expressed an interest in attending the council meeting and AGM to Mr Hayter of DASA. Will be booking my hotel room tomorrow.

This looks as though what is forthcoming will help raise the profile of both this group and DASA.

For those who weren’t at the recent meetings and mystified as to what is going on, all will come clear in the fullness of time I’m sure.

I think this is a great idea but I am concerned that the small one man bands like me will still not be taken on by the manufacturers because they won’t give us a chance, it’s the same old problem for us guys, how do you
improve your business if they won’t give you a chance, I have all the qualifications in the world and many years experience but I don’t think this will count for anything because I don’t employ any engineers so I can’t cover as many jobs a week.

Just a point from someone trying hard to get a succesfull business !!

I believe that some solutions to that are being worked on Dave, I’m sure there will be more comments on it soon enough.

However I would like to point out that many of the team that worked on the MFI network are working on this project and there is interest from several parties in using such a network. It is therefore imperative that you “get your name in the hat” as quickly as you can whether you think you can meet the requirements or not for the moment as there is always more than one way to skin a cat.

This most likely will lead to good solid work without the middle-man’s huge cuts we’ve seen of late which means we get paid more in effect. That can’t be bad can it and certainly no worse than what we’re having to put up with from some work providers right now?

Hence the need for as much feedback as possible, whilst I’m not directly involved in this since it is a DASA project I can see the merit in it and I can see it being the most radical shake up of the service industry in years! No, I’m not exagerating, this is a one-of-a-kind project led by an enthusiastic team of service people doing the job day-to-day trying to make their lifes and everyone that’s a part of this better and easier.

    And, very importantly, more profitable!

Firstly, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I have to say that I am 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} in favour of the network. I have no problems with any of the criterior covering standards of workmanship, response time, or customer satisfaction issues. However, there are a number of the Whitegoods Forum contributors, who are not DASA members, or are ex DASA members and who left because we had problems with DASA personnel or felt that DASA did not represent the views of the smaller companies. Whilst Ted and others, indicated that DASA will change (whitegoods forum meeting) those of you that are members must realise that to the outsiders DASA must stand on its merits. The cost to individuals is far higher than compareable groups (FSB = £80 per annum) and as such therefore DASA must produce higher gains. I appreciate that DASA is having recruitment problems, but to indicate to those of us that had pleasure being part of “pressure group whitegoods”; that we must be part of DASA to be part of the network is just plain wrong. The extreme analogy is a WP saying that you must pay us fees to get the work! Once again I would say that I favour this network but would much rather be part of the network first and then join DASA after consideration.

Everyone at the end of the day has a choice to make,to be a part of the tide that is going to turn Dasa on its head or to sit on the beach and enjoy the sunshine. However every member of whitegoods forum/Dasa wants to play it, is up to the individual, but rest assured this is NETWORK-DASA,being formed under the Dasa banner to promote continuity in standard of service, adherance to quality standards set by Dasa and to which all Dasa members subscribe.

You can join Dasa or not,the choice is yours but I would ask that you come and chat to myself and others involved before you decide,we are open to debate and all are invited to attend the open forum. If you can’t attend there are several E mail addresses to which you could send a question………… Over to you this is what it is all about …DISCUSSION

DASA is getting changed for the better I hope and anyone at the recent council meeting will see that. A lot of the things discussed there were more positive than I’ve heard for years from DASA so there is hopefully a bright future for DASA, the Network DASA scheme simply re-enforces that sentiment.

Whilst I might not have seen (or in some cases do see) eye-to-eye with DASA at times I can see the need for it to be there and, quite frankly, without changes DASA would probably continue to decline, wither and die.

However many on the council are all to aware of this and are implimenting sweeping changes in the organisation and its activities, to my mind, very much for the better. If it stays on course then DASA will emerge a stronger and far more focussed trade association that will most certainly be doing more for its members and be a lot more pro-active.

That being said though, to adress the point about fees that it is ridculous to be worrying at all about a couple of hundred quid for it? This only highlights, yet again, that we are not being paid enough for the job if we are even quibbling about that kind of paltry amount of money. I’m not lessening the argument and I take the points made about it, but I do find it amusing to a degree and very saddening in another that it is such a huge consideration.

The whole Whitegoods Group and website has applied pressure using numbers, yes there is strength in numbers and, as we’ve all seen over the past couple of years, almost all of us share and face the same problems on a day-to-day basis. We’ve also seen some good results and many problems resolved amicably because of it, which is excellent and the whole point of the excersise, but we can respond and react far faster here than DASA can in many respects.

Anyway, I do believe that DASA has a future and it will go forward just maybe not as fast as I, you or the council would like as it is governed by rules and a council etc. that we are not bound by. But then, because of the very nature of DASA it has to be that way.

Watch this space though and attend the AGM to witness first hand the changes that are sweeping DASA, I’m only a member and I’ve seen it.
