ParticipantCan anybody confirm the following for me please? The above item has a ‘wet body/walled fridge(as per my repair engineer) which is why I am experiencing a large amount of what is described as condensation. My fridge/freezer is 5 weeks old. Constantly on the glass shelves my food is sat in ‘puddles’ of water. The tops of jars and yoghurts etc also has small puddles of water on them. Cardboard packaging is reduced to a damp mess.
I am really so upset and even more so today when ‘Hotpoint’ repairs came out and basically told me ‘tough’ as that is the way this type of FF performs.
Please can anybody confirm or unconfirm this for me? Many Thanks. 😡August 26, 2009 at 2:48 pm #295555kwatt

There shouldn’t be condensation on the shelves, full stop.
The only ways that can happen, that I can think on is through either air ingress (hot air getting in) or a large quantity of fresh has been put in at one time that’s caused a temperature rise or it’s “sweating”.
I can’t see it being made to make your food wet though.

Thanks for your reply. I have a technician coming out to see the fridge in 10 days as I am going away. I had to demand to see one, as Hotpoint insist it is ‘normal’. I will though not accept it and like you say my food should not be wet to the degree it is.
I have a good seal all around the door and it has been a problem since day one which tells me its not the food that is in the fridge either.
Thanks once again and hopefully I will be able to report a success on my return!August 26, 2009 at 7:42 pm #295557spimps

Any shelves touching the wet wall?they shouldn’t be!
Condensation on the wet wall is fine but it shouldn’t be getting onto the shelves.

Hi, check that no food is touching the back wall. when the machine defrosts itself, the water will drain down the food instead of the wall, thus soaking everything.
alternatively, check that the shelves have their protective ‘lip’ to the rear of the shelf pointing up. this is designed to stop things touching the back wall.
alternatively, you may have an inefficient compressor, hotpoint have fitted lots of these, but will not admit it. does the back wall ever actually have frost on it? IT SHOULD HAVE but only about 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time. by design, they freeze/ melt/ freeze/ melt etc.
dont take any crap from hotpoint, i’ve been fixing fridges for 20 years and some of the rubbish i’ve heard from their engineers defies all belief. you should NEVER have water on the shelves (but be really sure you haven’t stocked it up wrong or you’re gonna look really stooopid.
good luck

oh, also check the interior light goes out when the door shuts (by pulling back the door seal a little as you open and close the door)
