We have a belling fan oven, turned it on to heat up last night, after a few minutes of it being on the lights flickered and the wall sockets trip switch had flicked off.
After turning it back on, we turned the oven on and it sounds fine, but it just doesn’t get hot, it gets warm but no where near being hot.
Any ideas? I’d rather not have to get an engineer out if it’s something simple we can fix ourselves as we don’t have much money at the moment.
If someone could point me in the direction of the part I would need and some basic instructions on how to fit it that would be great.

Probably just the fan element that’s popped which you can usually see but easily test for continuity if required.
Most are a case of taking off the rear panel inside the oven and you should see the element.
I will need the model number to be sure, so I can check what type of oven it is and what element is fitted.

Thanks for the quick response, unfortunately I have no idea of the model number as we inherited it from the previous owner it doesn’t have any markings on the front and we don’t have the owners manual.
I took the plate off from the back of the inside of the oven this morning, exposing the fan and the element. How do I tell if the element has “popped” as you put it?

Hi Paul,
Find the rating plate, the model and serial number will be on that. Instruction books are useless for that for the most part anyways, don’t trust them, they lie. But it really is very important that you have that model number so as you get the correct element and also the best price as there are often alternatives.
On the element you may be able to see physical damage to it, as in it’s split or something like that. But apart from that most of the information you need should be in this article about fan elements.

Hmmm I bet that rating plate is in a hard to reach place!
Ok I’ve had a read of that article, can’t say I noticed any splits but I’ll have a closer look tonight. Part of the coil did look a bit bent?

The model no. can normally be found behind the main oven door towards the bottom left hand corner.

Right not sure if this is what you’re looking for or not? Found this on a sticker inside the main oven compartment just by the door. Two numbers it says
Belling 050554055
And then a barcode string

Yup, it’s all misshapen at the back, probably toasted. 😉
I can’t track that serial number or the 050554055 number but I think the element is this one by the looks of it.

When I google “Belling 050554055”, the results I get seem to suggest a 2000W element, the one you’ve linked to is a 1800W, will that matter?
Also it’s a freestanding oven an not built in, does this make it more tricky?

Your cooker is a Belling 864ST, made in Italy by Merloni. THIS ELEMENT is the specific one for your appliance.
It is retained by two nuts on the rear of the casing, so back panel off for access.
Power off as well.

What do I do about the gas pipe going into the back?

Thanks Chris, I couldn’t track that number but I was a little pressed for time. 😉
If it’s on a solid pipe then it will be a Gas Safe registered plumber job to disconnect it.
If it’s on a flexi hose then it’s a bayonet fitting that will release easily and safely.

It’s on a flexi hose thing, right so gas off electricity off. Must try not to blow myself up 😛

Well it’s arrived 🙂
It looks right from what I can tell, the only difference I can see at the moment is that the plate where the two prongs for connecting the electricity to are, don’t have what look like removable screws.
The one that’s currently in my oven has what look like cross head screws on the inside of the oven, though I haven’t taken the back panel off yet to check for securing nuts.
