I’ve never really used this before as I’ve used silicone but it seems to be favoured by several people on here so I got a tube. The tube is printed in the foreign so how long should I leave joints to dry before leak testing?

Blimey,is Debor still available ? I remember 30 odd years ago when I started work and the reps from wash vac, maddocks etc used to call and there would always be an order placed for tubes !
Memories of standing on tubes which then split on carpet tiles :rolls: …
and a very vivid memory of a very hairy dog running down a customers garden with a tube stuck to its muzzle , and by the time it was caught, there was half a forest stuck to its head, along with the still stuck tube completely matted up amongst its fur !
And as for the smell that used to linger in the tiny honda acty van….i was permanently floating !!

used debor for years got me out of many a tight spot i normally apply a covering to both surfaces leave for 10 mins before putting together ,i have to agree though you leave it in your tool box at your peril 😆 Chezza the honda acty was a fantastic little van my dad had one in the eighties for his refrigeration business 1 wheel drive 500cc and a top speed of 85 😉 well i was only 18 😆

There’s no need to wait with debor. The solvent is so volatile it will form a skin in seconds. By the time you’ve got the plug in and the water turned back on it’ll be water tight.
Ah…. that’s if you’ve used it to seal a hose connection which would probably have been OK without it anyway.
If OTOH you’re using it to repair a rusted drum, then you’d better leave it for a week, and then be ready for a call back. It ain’t meant for repairing holes in drums. Nor for repairing rotted hoses. I’ve seen the disasters that result from such attempted repairs.
I used debor for the last twenty years but recently switched to silicone for most purposes thinking it less likely to injure my health.

If I remember correctly, I originally had a 375cc single stroke with the engine accesible through a plate in the floor of the rear, before I was upgraded to the luxurious 500cc version ( I am sure Mark will remember 😆 )

The habit of spending hours casually picking remenants of Debor from one’s fingers is a well known side effect, and one that gives one the appearence of a nervous schoolchild awaiting 6 lashes outside the headmasters office.And Debor stuck on the work trousers and/or jacket giving the appearence of someone who has just crawled out of a skip!
Good stuff though to get you out of a sticky situation.. 😆

In my experience, all of it ends up on your hands and the joint you have just applied it to is completely clean of the stuff. Not used it for years. The quality deteriorated a few years back as it started to come out of the tube in an oily mess as if it has seperated in the tube. Not missed!
Had a tube fall across the live terminals of a mains filter once…..the scene of a mini napalm attack in the customers kitchen will never be forgoten.Re: Debor Glue
ive got a huge dollop of debour in the back pouch of my toolbox, that in itself is a lasting reminder never to leave in toobox again….
i still use it for sealing t/stat gaskets and for the drain hose of servis door seals other than that not much call for it.
ps it doesnt seal a cracked tub 😳

Ah I had wondered if it would stick to plastic tubs better than silicone. I tend to weld small holes with the soldering gun but sometimes you still get a minute seepage if the weld is a bit porous. Did one on a welded tub machine a few weeks ago. I put a thick layer of silicone over quite a big area surrounding the weld but I had wondered if Debor would have stuck better.

Very old but milliput does the trick sets like rock!!! will fill small cracks and holes sets under water etc. You can even tap and screw it. 😆

Many years ago when working for Hotpoint we used to get a Debor type adhesive supplied in large tins. The only way to get it out was by dipping a screwdriver or your finger in it. 😥
On one occasion whilst my van was off the road I had to borrow another van from an engineer who was on holiday.
After driving for about 20 minutes or so I began to feel a bit light headed and dizzy.
Opened the back doors to find his tin had tipped over and was oozing out all over the place. 😯
I find Debor seals rubber hoses and grommets to metal better than silicone.
