ParticipantHi,
I have a Hotpoint CTD40 condensing dryer which has recently developed a fault. When I try and select any of the button programs it just beeps and wont select. If I press start it just beeps 4 times and does nothing. I have tried turning it off and leaving it for a while, it then worked for a few seconds and then stopped same problem as before. I have checked the little switch at the door and it is working and pointy bit is still there.Anyone got any ideas??
Thanks,

Hi, No none of the lights are flashing – the empty water light is on as normal.
It won’t do anything when you push any of the program buttons and just beeps 4 times when you press the start button.Paul

😕 ❓
Apart from the small touch switches breaking off the front of the PCB or some of the push buttons on the front are jammed or stuck in I can’t think of any obvious cause. Indesit electronics though so anything is possible. :rolls:
I have had one or two of the door switches coming adrift inside as well.
Be sure to pull the plug if you intend to have a poke around.

Hi,
I have had a look around door switch is operational, no buttons are stuck you can press them, they beep and the light illuminates while your finger is still on the button, but goes out when you release them. I had it switched overnight and the next day the dryer worked for a few seconds and then stopped with the same problem.

If anyone else has had this problem, or knows something else to try I would be grateful. I’m not afraid to carry out any component replacement if anyone knows whats wrong.
Thanks,
Paul

Can anyone help with this dryer problem — Wife is giving me ear ache!
Could it have been a problem caused by my 3 yr old daughter constantly pushing different buttons, would this have caused a programming change?November 11, 2009 at 11:23 am #300715iadom

The top control PCB is around £85. There are at least three different base mounted power modules, around £80 each and six different smart cards at approx £17.50 needed to programme this board, you will also need a smart card reader which is another £60+ to actually use the smartcard.
If it is under five years old then you are covered for all parts, you will only have to pay the £99.85 labour charge.
It is possible that constant pressing of the buttons whilst the machine is in use may have done some damage but it is not something I have encountered.
The very fact that this topic has had over 190 views and yet only one person answering does bear out my initial view that this is an unusal fault that has not been encountered that often in the field.
You can either take a chance on very expensive components or grit your teeth and let the Indesit Company sort it for you.

If you do get it fixed it would be nice if you could pop back and let us know the outcome, it all adds to the knowledge base. 😉

I suspected a door problem but the OP insists the door switch is operating correctly. 😕

SORTED!!!
This was really bugging me, I knew it had to be something simple – it was an issue with the door switch. The switch itself works fine but the little pin at the top of the door dosen’t press it in far enough. Pused a small screwdriver in to simulate the door being closed and hey presto!
Thanks
