Hoover VisionHD W966DP-80 error code 7 when drying

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently bought a Hoover VisionHD W966DP-80 washer drier from Dixons. I’m now on my 3rd machine.

All of them when doing a drying cycle finish on error code 7 – locking the door until the mains is cut. When turned back on (even after an hour), the display goes haywire and then they start the same programme again, no matter what the dial is set to. Turning the dial to “off” at this point cancels it and the machine can be used again.

It doesn’t affect the ability to wash or even dry – it just happens at the end. The display shows E07 which Hoover have said is this error code.

The fact that I have had three of these machines with the same fault says to me it is a generic design problem – probably software – but neither Hoover or Dixons have admitted as such.

Is anyone else having the problem?

*EDIT*: I used the machine after posting the above on just a wash cycle to wash some sheets and pillowcases. On finishing it reported the same error code – this was the first time on wash only.

However, on opening the door I found small rubber beads all over the sheets and a thin sheen of rubber all around the drum. It appears that the drum had rubbed against the rubber gasket around the door, melting it. I thought I smelled something hot during the spin and this explained it. The drum was nearly too hot to touch.

The machine seemed well balanced and I actually weighed the damp sheets etc – the total was 4.4kg (this is a 9kg machine), so it wasn’t overloaded.

If the drum was rubbing on rubber, it might explain the error code (which on another post for a different Hoover is said to be motor/drum jam or tacho failure).

I honestly don’t know where to go with this except get my money back. On paper this is a good machine, but either the build quality is atrocious or something about the way it is being installed is badly affecting them.
