ParticipantHi everyone,
I’ve recently bought a Hoover VisionHD W966DP-80 washer drier from Dixons. I’m now on my 3rd machine.
All of them when doing a drying cycle finish on error code 7 – locking the door until the mains is cut. When turned back on (even after an hour), the display goes haywire and then they start the same programme again, no matter what the dial is set to. Turning the dial to “off” at this point cancels it and the machine can be used again.
It doesn’t affect the ability to wash or even dry – it just happens at the end. The display shows E07 which Hoover have said is this error code.
The fact that I have had three of these machines with the same fault says to me it is a generic design problem – probably software – but neither Hoover or Dixons have admitted as such.
Is anyone else having the problem?
*EDIT*: I used the machine after posting the above on just a wash cycle to wash some sheets and pillowcases. On finishing it reported the same error code – this was the first time on wash only. However, on opening the door I found small rubber beads all over the sheets and a thin sheen of rubber all around the drum. It appears that the drum had rubbed against the rubber gasket around the door, melting it. I thought I smelled something hot during the spin and this explained it. The drum was nearly too hot to touch.
The machine seemed well balanced and I actually weighed the damp sheets etc – the total was 4.4kg (this is a 9kg machine), so it wasn’t overloaded.
If the drum was rubbing on rubber, it might explain the error code (which on another post for a different Hoover is said to be motor/drum jam or tacho failure).
I honestly don’t know where to go with this except get my money back. On paper this is a good machine, but either the build quality is atrocious or something about the way it is being installed is badly affecting them.

It’s a false glitch caused by the power board on certain serial numbers. Power board needs to be replaced to make it go away.

ParticipantThat’s interesting if it is. The serial numbers on this machine and the previous one I had are 5 weeks apart on the manufacturing date.
It doesn’t really explain the rubber beading problem though.

Participanthas it not actually occured to you that something could possibly have got stuck between the seal and drum?
theyre not as bad as the picture your painting

ParticipantYes it has. In fact that happened with the first machine I had – the installer left one of the plugs that should have gone in the transit bolt holes in there.
As soon as I saw this happen this morning, my first thought was “it’s happened again”. So I ran my finger around and found nothing except worn rubber.

Participantyou wont if youve moved the article in question
although, to be fair, ive seen more than 2 of these with the door seal catching the drum
get yer money back n buy summert decent will ya?

ParticipantWell, if the article in question was one of the sheets then that’s also not good.
I almost certainly will get my money back. What do people recommend with the same features in the same price range? I want 1400+ spin, quiet motor and AAA rating if possible.

Participanthow much did you spend if you dont mind me asking?
November 7, 2009 at 8:15 pm #302855dpeilow
Participant£560
I think there is an AEG and an LG with similar features at around that level.

Participantthe lg washer dryers are pretty good, dont recall seeing ANY for repair
aegs are reliable, but they are a zanussi in a skirt.. welded tubs, expensive parts, unreliable pcb’s
unfortunately, your going to have to spend…
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/produc … LG-F1403RD
encorporates the direct drive system, so whisper quiet.. reliable too… for me and other engineers/traders… these gradings are nominal and unimportant
unfortunately, the best thing is
http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/produc … ELE-WT2670its just the silly price and future servicing which could be an issue
im sure others will comment and try and help
good luck

ParticipantThanks very much for your help.
I’ve been looking at that LG this afternoon. One question I have though – is the 64cm depth with or without the supply hose? Because my space is exactly 64cm deep…

Participantthey tend to lie flush with the machine.. thats one good point about the hoovers, they arent as deep as others

ParticipantThanks. Looks like I have a trip to Comet with my tape measure tomorrow 🙂

ParticipantWell, I did go shopping with my tape measure yesterday. I couldn’t find that particular LG anywhere in the local area, but I did find one of their washing machines that also claimed to be 64cm deep. In fact, if you measure from the back of a bulge on the back to the front of the door, it is 69cm…
I guess that’s that one ruled out. AEG it is.
