For shifting integrated washing machines back into position, a couple of bits of 4 by 2 wood underneath aids easing it back onto its plinth.

Plastic clothes line rope stuff for lifting tub springs on/off, ideal for the task.

    Shedloads of self-tappers. πŸ˜‰

And a magnet on a string to recover screws etc. recovered from an old magnetron.

Without a doubt the most important tool in case is the dofor tin, which is an old Golden Virgina 2oz tobacoo tin full of screws, grommets, fuses and circlips. The merits of this tin were explained to me by my first boss and when I asked him what dofor meant he told me it was obvious, the bits in the tin do for this and do for that.

Kwatt – we use old drive belts for tub springs.

Use a large socket to keep them stupid wire hose clips wide open, saves messing about with pliers.

Always ensure your engineers carry an old inlet valve to cap off that inlet hose that wont turn off.

A clamp meter. You know I dont know another engineer who carries one.
So useful to check machines are heating or not. You also need a very short extension lead with the outer insulation taken off as you have to clamp around a single wire (although RS do one that can be clamped around a mains lead).

Given this a fair bit of thought and it’s got to be the star screwdriver. All write it may be a bit bland, but where would you be with out it.

star screwdriver, now thats got me going.

I still have in my box my trusty stanley star driver with the shaft that is about 14″ long. In days gone by every engineer in a shop had one for taking out the motor in hoover juniors. I can’t remember the last time I used it and I have had it for about 25 years, so this brings on a new thread of “The heavy toolbox, what can you take out for the new year”

NOTHING! don’t be daft, we’re engineers and as such are natural horders of crud we will probably never need again but we keep it, “just in case”. πŸ˜†

Just look at some of the stock we’ve got!

A good trick to slide machines back over that bl**dy awful cushionfloor that tears so easily, is a couple of pieces of sheet aluminium 3ft by 4inches. …just slid under the feet to clear all likely hazards πŸ˜‰

I’m puzzled now Martin. It’s too early on a Sun morn for cryptics.
