ParticipantI’ve had another one off these timers clicking round and round, usually stopping on spin. I tested the insulation and everything’s fine. The heater was OK and so was the thermostat. The motor and pump worked fine too.
I can’t see owt wrong with it? What is likely to be causing this misbehaviour please?
It’s a W123UK

KeymasterModule??
Is that not one of those daft Merloni things where the “timer” is really just a slave for the module?
I’m not sure as I’m not that familiar with the newer Merloni products from that stable but the Servis ones seem to be going down that road as well now. 🙁

We had one of these (model W161) the other week where the wires from the “timer” had rubbed on the tub (surpringly stainless steel on this one) and shorted out. We repaired this but still had the timer clicking around stuff so had to change the module.
I think in all the talk about changing EE proms, no one had pointed out that although the new module comes without EE prom, its not just a matter of swopping from the old module as some of these are soldered in rather than in a socket. I wouldnt give much hope for one of these surviving being desoldered even using a heat shunt.
The moral is, order the correct EEprom with the module. and check those timer wires are well away from the tub before fitting as it may wreck the new module at switch on…..
……or just scrap the machine!January 3, 2004 at 10:58 pm #108319Dave_Conway

I would say so, given the phone calls I get for Indesit washing machine unexplained errors. Am I out on a limb here by thinking that some manufacturers are damaging their resales by selling sh*te 😀

Andy: This machine has a self test facility. If you cancel the program out by putting the timer knob on one of the black dots on the timer surround and then switching on, this will cancel all current programs. Then reset the program to where you started and restart. After the initial component check, the appliance facia neon will flash a number of times to indicate the program is accepted. At this point one of two things happen, the machine starts up and progresses thro as normal or the timer knob starts to click around. If the latter, you have to count the number of flashes the facia neon makes. Which goes – one flash short pause then a number of flashes short pause one flash then a number of flashes etc. Forget the timer going around just count the multi flashes (not the single flash) and this should indicate the area of fault. Ive sent the flash codes down to Dave Conway but if you want a copy forwarding just send me a pm. If non of the above happen its nearly always the module and eeprom. Kindly note there are two types of module fitted to this machine. One has a removeable eeprom the second does not.

Many thanks for the replies, especially bonzaco. I found the machine often wouldn’t reset and contiued clicking round even when I unplugged the machine and tried again. Having never replaced one of these modules (No one wants to spend more than £50 in Sheffield) Ive not come across this eeprom thingymebob. What is it and where and what does it do?
Also, if I charge £45 (which is cheap) for visiting, diagnosing and obtaining part – then returning, fitting and guaranteeing for 12 months. What is the cost going to be? Anything over £75 (which clearly it will be) and I’ll show you me arse if she has it done.
Cheers
Andy

Martin, the fault codes are listed in this forum under “known error codes”. here http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/postt40.html I guess that is what you mean by flash codes anyway.

HOUSEHOLD-ELECTRIC.
Microsoft Word translation tool comes in handy sometimes 😉
Dunno about the Indesit fault though, I’m as baffled as you with the damn things 😕 Bonzaco is a bit of a whizz with the Indesit faults.

You may be right there. Bugger all pasta all then 😀

Martin, dont forget the simple things, I assume you have checked the heater and thermistor first?

ModeratorRe: Another Indesit timer clicking round
I was wondering if its getting weird signals from the thermistor it may be trying to calculate a wash time based on the rate its heating the water, hence the seemingly random times. We had something like it on a bosch dishwasher once. difficult to prove without fitting a heater though. What does it do if you just select a rinse or spin prog then?

ParticipantRe: Another Indesit timer clicking round
I’ve had quite a few armatures do this. Mostly Hoover. A short in the windings usually. However, that was a good few years back. Who know with these new excuses for washing machines.
