I Refused Point Blank to Order That Part For her Told Only Genuine I Use With Guarantees I Gave Her A Rollicking For Wasting My Time And Effort
She has Just Phoned me Back And Apologised And Said That hotpoint Are Offering A Fix For Over A £100.00 Inc Genune Parts.
But She May Have to Take A day or A half One Off To Be in. And Lose £70.00 SO It Could Cost Her Between £135.00 Or A Full Days Pay At A Total Of £170.00 Inc Parts Labor And A Day Off.
The Jobs Back On With The Recommended Retail Price :)Plus Labour 😉
She Done my head in 😕

If only the internet could pop out of the screen and fix it for them.
it would be such a perfect world.
I’m having one of those old fart days wishing it was the 80’s again, when people would ring you, you call, give price and do job, without all the hassle.
As long as all the local guys kept prices the same there was enough around for all to just make a decent living.
Now its getting to the point I’d be better off stacking shelves overnight in Asda’s. 😥
I was watching on BBC2 a prog about the internet and its beginings and how the internet was suppost to pan out.
It was supposed to open up markets and allow growth in trade.
Personnally I believe its used to bring down business.
Worst invention ever me thinks. 🙁

I can think of one or two irritants that we would not have to endure if the internet was not around but on balance its benefits massively outweigh its disadvantages. 😉

Wouldn’t be without it now but it is very annoying to walk into a house where the customer has his/her laptop set up on the kitchen table spouting off the prices for various parts :rolls:
Its been a devastating invention for anyone with a shop retailing spares though, there’s no one left in my area with such a business now 🙁
But then its been the same for many of our high street shops, especially small independent ones.Cant help but notice just how many parcel vans are on the road these days, tailgating you wherever you go :rolls: internet deliveries no doubt.
So yeah, the internet is here to stay & has many advantages but the decrease of local shops & the increase of white van man isnt so good IMO…..(speaking as a white van man! 🙂 )February 2, 2010 at 1:02 pm #310708Phidom

Before the internet it took a lot longer to identify and order spares so you had less time for actual repair work. Orders were also less accurately picked in those days. When I first started I used to place orders by phone to Crum & Sons, agents for Qualtex. They rarely got an order completely right as they were very slapdash at taking down the part numbers.

One grip I have is that members here complain of part difficulties and pricing from the likes of JTM and Connect, yet both groups offer repair options through the internet.
Something they would have difficulty with if the internet finished today.
In my town there used to be 5 trade suppliers within 10 miles, they used to deliver within a day and if one didn’t have stock the other would and if that was out of stock there was always WashVac or Electrue.
QER modules used to get a lot of business as well and I honestly can’t remember clients waiting more than a week for a spare.
Now the Internet allows companies to track a user around the internet and monitor which sites you use etc etc.
Why do people not realise that the prices differ from connect, see above, those members with lots of accounts and visit lots of alternatives probably will find the price from connect lower than those with fewer options.
For me the benefits are less, the 5 trade suppliers have all gone and I’m limited to availability and the people offering have little competition, so prices differ and they also offer a repair service aimed at removing me from the picture. 😥

I had one who phoned me last week wanted a stat on a larder fridge, 16 miles from where I am, quoted her £60 all in, she went ape and told me she would only pay £18 tops God only knows where she plucked that price from. She told me she had a stat fitted by someone a year ago for £18, I said call them to fix it I don’t work for nothing.

we normally advise customers that we wont warranty any part that they are able to get cheaper of the net…
if they want our services with a peace of mind warranty on the job then they have pay…
if not they can go else where…most are ok when you explain
