Bosch Exxcel 1400 Express (washing m/c)
WF 02865GB/01 FD 8302 701877Recently noticed laundry floor was wet. Wasn’t sure whether culprit was washing machine or roof. (Turned out to be both!!)
Water is leaking from front of filter housing on front of machine. Filter has been removed and cleaned (there was almost no debris in it) and re-fitted, but it doesn’t seem to be tightening properly. Thread appears to be ‘jumping’ once nearly tight. There is no obvious damage, and the seal is present and clean. Mating face of seal was wiped, but not inspected closely due to very large puddle on floor!
Tried re-fitting filter and running a (30deg wool) wash: noticed large leak (first) then after further tightening, leak reduced to a trickle. Cycle finished OK.
Is there anything else I should look for or try?
If obtaining spares, is the filter rubber washer or complete ‘cap’ available separately, or will I need a complete assembly? (If the latter, is it available separately to the pump?)Incidentally, is the pump on this type always so noisy? I had to replace it a year or so ago and the replacement (obtained via this forum) was as noisy as the original one.

PTFE tape? Silicon sealant?

Thank you for the information. 🙂Is there any way of telling which of the two parts I need without removing the pump from the machine?
(I fitted the pump, so I know what’s involved and don’t want to make extra work for myself if I don’t have to.)PJ

Power off!
if you take off the kick plate and look through the hole with a torch you should be able to see the lable on the pump motor.

Thanks for the idea; it did the trick. I discovered there was no obvious manufacturer’s name, but the following was written on the label:
Drain Pump
R20-6
30W 0.2A
20l/minI managed to take some photos of the pump and the filter (see http://pbckt.com/sg.vON)
However, I also remembered that I ordered the pump from this site, and found the order details from September 2008…
The pump is a “BS51120 – Bosch & Siemens Washing Machine & Washer Dryer Pump” but I am certain it did not come with a filter/housing.Re: Bosch WFO2865GB Filter Leaking
I hate finding unfinished forum threads…
Armed with the above information, I asked for help at the spares section of this site. There were three possible filters (each about £10) depending on pump manufacturer, but I was advised that “the BS51120 is a ‘pattern pump’ so none of the listed filters will fit” and I would need to order a complete pump to get a replacement filter.
After the prompt email response in the spares section, the order processing was equally fast, and, having paid the extra for courier delivery, the part arrived the next day. Can’t complain about this for service!
It seemed silly having a new pump and just swapping the filter over, especially when there was a chance that the housing thread was damaged rather than the filter. Twenty minutes later, the washing machine has a new pump fitted and no leak!
