Participantzwf/zwx/fjs style bodys with the half&half carcass bodys (circa 1998-2006)
just done one today and not impressed with the time it took to remove some red undies jamming the drum 😡 .
just wondered what the best way you have found was to get into the drum with the minimum level of work. my main issue was the tension of the springs on the “H” support when you removed the front section, even laid on its back it was pulling it in a long way…
**ps this is obv assuming foreign body cannot be reached from sump/fill hoses or element**

I always lie them on their front after removing the back part of the cabinet, I never remove the the front part of the cabinet .
I use a heavy duty piece of nylon cord, slip it round the spring, sit on the floor and push with my feet against the cabinet/crosspiece whilst pulling on the cord.

I lay the open back down on a blanket, pull out the springs with a cble tie, push out the suspa pins, and lift the front section away. Use same cable tie to reposition springs.

right will remember for future reference 🙂
basically back off, pins out, hoses off, lie back (machine 8)), springs out, tub out, and unscrew
reverse when ready… seems so simple now !

Don’t take pins out till you’ve laid machine back on floor.

I always lay them face down, its easier to remove all of the hoses, weights, motor, wiring and sus pins from that direction, then release the springs and lift the drum assy clear.

Ditto Jim’s comments by the way….But just to add that it’s important to remove the porthole door, unhook the door boot and tuck it inside the drum. Remove back panel then lie it (on a blanket or similar if you wish) on its front…..removing rear counterweight, motor, heater wiring and earth, hoses and shocker pins from the drum before finally unhooking the springs and lifting drum assy clear….!

Removing doors & counterweights? 😯 Naa, i just do it upright, motor off certainly, then wiring, hoses & susp pins. Pop the springs up with a screwdriver & support by grabbing spring with other hand.
Refit by looping an old snapped 3 rib belt around spring & yanking through. Simple(s)March 23, 2010 at 11:41 am #315981wilf

I wonder what tips there are for removing the tubs of those Zanussi/Lux/AEG’s with solid cabinets? Nah, on second thoughts I’d best leave that for another thread topic at least while this one is still rolling out.

Only done one of those, for failed bearings if i remember rightly. Had to come out top, right PITA.
Lux have started fitting a new style tub to the more expensive large capacity machines i’ve noticed, joint forward of suspension, front of cabinet comes off for in situ bearing change.. probably ❓
Looks like a welcome return of common sense, anyone had one apart ❓ ❓March 23, 2010 at 12:51 pm #315985Martin

OK well I use just one bit of wire for the job………………
If you want the part number just let me know. Sure makes it easier that bits of cable ties, old belts and packing straps etc.
