ParticipantJust died yesterday in fact………………Before we commit his body to the land fill can I just ask maybe he is just sleeping and worth waking at least? 😕
On his body it is marked JLWM1202 and only the door lock neon shows any sign of life. Now I’ve whipped out his heart and had a look at the PCB and there’s no sign of any cardiac problems there. His arteries seem intact and plugged in nicely, his front panel seems just as healthy looking.
What I’m not too sure about is his knob? Now again a closer inspection reveals all arteries connected to it are OK but I have to admit that is where I suspect the problem may lie? But I could be wrong, however I have based my assumption on the fact that only two devices can affect the electronics being so very dead as they do. The door interlock does get a bashing as does the knob. Furthermore I’ve fitted a new interlock and still nothing!
Can anyone give a second opinion on that patient? Or arrange a funeral service?

am i the only one to smirk at the frequent misdirectional use of “knob” ?
being a zanussi board you should be able to get into doagnostics to at least try and illuminate all the leds/eyes/other ancillery bodypart term

Behind the knob is a 24P (positions?) programme selector. Seems to be obsolete. Seems there’s little to lose by trying to pull it apart and fiddle with it 😯 .
Mike.
PS: Did you take the old lock apart to see if it had shorted internally? If it had, I’d follow the wires back to the board and look very closely for a triac with a hole in it, for example, or smoke signs on the plastic module cover.March 26, 2010 at 8:49 am #316308Martin

The machine is dead! Therefore no lights, diagnostic access impossible.

Just to cover myself I’ve ordered a new rotatary switch (3794404008) from Masterpart. At just £13 I thought it worth a shot?

No Mike, I don’t want to mess around taking interlocks apart TBH. As I said earlier, I have inspected both sides of the main board (using a magnifying glass) and there’s no sign of damage, no popped triacs or surface resistors..nothing. If the interlock had gone faulty and shorted internally it would have blown the module big time and I’d have spotted that I reckon.
So by way of a calculated gamble I resting my hope on the selector switch but left wondering all the while if anyone else has come across the same (or similar?) problem on this style of Zanussi/Lux/John Lewis with the big central ‘knob’? 🙂

Well there is 240v to and from the mains filter and it goes direct to the selector switch. However I did’nt check at the selector switch but just ordered a new one. Customer on holiday for 3 weeks in New Zealand right now but will report back….Cheers guys. 😀
