The clutch pulley on my Zanussi Z9191T washing machine has failed due to metal fatigue. Now, I tracked down the original part number 50654599005, which Electrolux claimed was still available on special order. So I ordered this part from Distriparts. After about 6 weeks I’d heard nothing, so I contacted Electrolux who said this part was no longer available.
Next, I tried to track down the motor, which according to the parts diagram comes complete with the clutch pulley. The original part was 50654398??? which was superceded by 50229133009. Again, this part was available as special order from Electrolux. I have actually received said motor, but when I opened the box I found it came minus the clutch pulley which was supposed to come with the motor according to the parts diagram. I didn’t actually need the motor, because mine works fine, but it looked to be the only way to get hold of the clutch which I need to keep the machine running. By this point I was quite annoyed because it had taken me a long time to find the later part number after sifting through 20 years worth of service bulletins.
I now have two working motors and no working clutch pulley. If by any chance anyone still has one of these anywhere, I’d be very grateful if they’d sell it to me. I don’t mind if it’s new or used. I know it’s an old machine so the chances are very slim, but if I don’t ask I’ll never know.

I have since found the item I needed on German ebay, but the auction has already ended with no bidders. I’m going to try and get it relisted.

Hi Tom,
This is a shot in the dark, but what about your local washer shop that sells reconditioned machines, they may do second hand parts as well. The one local to my self does, funnily enough called “The washer shop” in Halifax. Could be worth a try.
I have to say I admire you with your persistance to keep these EXCELLENT old machines going, they wash and rinse better than the modern rubbish and last a decent amount of time, isn’t the Washcraft about 24 years old now? I have a 16 year old bosch WFF2000 and it is superb, it washes better than a modern Hotpoint (which had PCB failiure after 2.5 years of light use, it was Indesit rubbish though, not a proper Hotpoint like yours). At least old machines rinse properly, as they use a sensible amount of water ( I have skin conditions, so will not have a modern machine). It does a 60oC wash in 1 hour 20 minutes with both hoses on the cold supply, so alot faster too.
A friend of mine has an old Hoover Logic 1200 (which is older than me) hidden under their stairs, broken from overloading apparatntly, and I am trying to get it off them and get it working again. They are fairly simple so shouldn’t be too hard, I hope.

By the way thanks for the help with the 32 year old TI Jackson drier, there are still bits and bobs available, so at least I can keep it running.

I know they were good machines but buying a new motor seems well OTT an such an old machine. If you do need to scrap the machine you may be able to sell the spare motor as it may also fit later models. It is a drawback with special orders that they can’t be returned.

I’m actually one of the ‘slightly mad’ people from automaticwasher.org. My hobby is keeping these old machines going so if I have to spend the money to keep the old washcraft going I will.
I also have a 1989 Zanussi Jetsystem with the enamelled tub which are quite rare machines. However, this uses a universal brush motor unlike my washcraft.

Nah, wouldn’t have said mad, there’s nothing wrong with keeping decent old machines running, the age of them says how well they are built.
I keep my Mums 9 year old IAR Siltal running, 2 months ago it had new bearings, belt and brushes and 12 months ago a new pump. Considering the machine did 20-25 loads a week for the first 4 years of its life and still does up to 20 ain’t bad. Its broken the 6000 wash mark by now and is still as the good as the day it was bought. I have altered its pressure switch to allow higher water levels in the wash and rinse though and it still does a 60oC wash in 1 hour 10 minutes.
Its very satisfying to keep the good machines of yesteryear running they wash so much better than the new A rated low water use stuff. If reducing the water in a washing machine reduces the efficiency then its a pointless fix. I hate modern washing machines, you cannot repair them as they are full of solid state components and need special software etc. I say bring back the old mechanical timer, it worked and was reliable.
I just hope I can get my hands on the Hoover Logic, now that should be fun! Never done one before but I like a challenge!

With the Z9191t am i right to presume that it is the inner part of the clutch that is broken ?
If you just need the clutch shoe assembly as it fits onto the splined shaft there is always hope that someone has had one lying in the dust for 20 years, wouldnt be as bad to post as a motor or clutch – so i will have a look on Tuesday.
Cannot promise as there will be alot of dust on it by now !Re: Zanussi clutch pulley

Does anyone know how I can remove the bit that’s broken? I can see a circlip behind but it’s very difficult to get to, is that holding the pulley on or the bit I want to remove? I tried pulling the inner bit off the ‘splined’ shaft but it doesn’t want to budge.

Just to let anyone know who’s interested in the outcome of this, I managed to get a near equivalent motor and clutch complete from a German Ebay seller. The motor is actually for the German ‘Privileg’ range of machines which were manufactured by Zanussi.
The motor was a slightly different rating from the old one, but a former engineer told me that this wouldn’t be a problem. I fitted it today and it works much better than the old one which used to rattle and wouldn’t spin properly. On top of that it only cost me £31 including postage.
I love working on my old machines and it’s highly satisfying to get things working again.

These companies do try to stop us running old machines by making things obsolete, but as we both know many things, even off modern machines can be adapted or made with relaitive ease. By the way you are right is is VERY satisfying to keep the oldies running.
