After 7 years the dishwasher doesn’t open at the end of the cycle. Up until then the door appeared to capable of being opened at any time although there was a recommendation not to do so mid cycle for obvious reasons. Why would the machine start to lock itself?

Thanks for the advice on excessive force – I have used it aldready. Not too much needed. The locking system is a square wire loop and tab that rises into the loop. It rest the tab is up 3mm which is half way up in the receiving hole. What I don’t know is how far the tab should rise.
It’s a “turn over” mechanism. Look into the slot at the top of the door and you should see two fingers or blades pointing at you. When these hit the wire loop, it should flip round 90 degrees to lock the door and work the master switch. It’s a known weak spot – replacement is your easiest option.
