I’m so pleased the forums are back in business. Special thanks to KWatt on MSE.
Anyway I’ve got a problem.

I would be extremely grateful if one of you kind Sirs would advise me on what to get.
Cannot afford the ISE or a Miele and hopefully I will have the money saved up by September.

hard to advise, but for most, zanussi tend to be a quality product for reasonable money
dont buy a hotpoint, loads of problems for the price they are
btw, your machine probably just needs a relay.. the dryer itself is better than any hotpoint machine you can buy these days.

It’s an easy fix – the door release relay has failed. They are about £20-25 + fitting. Much, much cheaper than a new drier. The drier will run for 5 minutes then stop. Leave it for a few minutes for the relay to cool down and try again. A quick test is to hold the start button in when it stops. The drier will run as long as you hold in the start switch. This is not the repair solution and wedging the start switch is not recommended. New relay ASAP.
It dismays me to see how some members of the public ( as in 2 replies on MSE) say, “Bin it…..it’s a throw away world” and “A new drier is more efficient” shows just how uninformed some people are who give “advice”. Advice should be given by persons with the necessary knowledge to do so. To scrap machines without researching if they can be saved is not only disasterous for the environment, but foolish and wasteful. Your Crusader is a Creda / Hotpoint in a dress and back then built in Britain to a reasonable standard. They haven’t got any better I can assure you…..
Most driers in the £250 – £300 bracket will be scrapped after 3-4 years so any energy efficiency savings and environmental considerations will pale into insignificance when the chap at the scrapyard starts up the crusher….. 😉
I have a Hotpoint drier in my workshop as we speak that is 14 months old with a drum that has collapsed through the plastic bearings and worn the back bearing shaft until it sheared off. This is mid range quality stuff. Imagine what the cheap ones are like……..You say you cannot afford a Miele or ISE so Bosch is the next mark down. Anything else is…..well….let’s just say you’ll be posting on here regularly. :rolls:

A little mystified by that statement, apart from a few hours here and there due to server problems we haven’t been away AFAIK.
Have to agree with most of the above although Zanussi washing machines do seem to have become very troublesome and expensive to repair their tumble dryers are quite decent and as a lot of Bosch dryers are ‘bought in’ from Gorenje and the like, buying a Gorenje in the first place would be a cheaper option.
I would personally go for a Zanussi dryer over the current Bosch machines if I didn’t have a dryer but would most definitely have your current dryer repaired without question. 8)

I’m sure KWatt mentioned quite awhile back that he had to stop people posting but I must have got confused. Sorry about that.
An engineer has phoned me back – same firm that fixed thermosat 3 years ago, didn’t want to come out to make sure he was right and said it was definitely a timer problem and would cost approx £95 to fix. Said I should scrap it because it was 10 years old and not worth fixing.
I will do what aqualectric suggests and post back later today. I totally agree with you about repairing rather than binning.

Edit:Tried it. It stpped and when I pressed the Start button nothing happened. Left it a couple of mins, worked again and just as it was about to stop I caught it in time and it does appear to be working. So that is it I hope.

Hi iadom, I can asure you Bosch no longer buy in badged machines from Gorenje. All the Bosch dryers are now made in a Bosch factory! 😀

Thats the situation at the moment, but for how long, and where is this ‘Bosch’ factory, China ? 😉

Hi iodom, there are about 40 BSH group factories world wide. Take your pick! All the top end stuff come out of factories in Germany. IMO pound for pound, I would choose a Bosch dryer every time. Pay a little bit extra & get a much better machine. 😀

But they are still on sale..spares for the bosch badges are 5 times more expensive than the original Gorenje ones because they come in a packet saying Bosch not gorenje.
