Do you charge any extra for instances where your customer pulls up a stool beside you to watch every single move you make, continually asking questions as to what might be wrong or if you can fix it?

Do you get those customers that state they want to watch exactly what you do to fix it so they can do it next time rather than troubling you again?

Do you incorporate an ‘aggravation charge’ in instances where their constant presence puts unnecessary pressure on you in order to complete your mission?

Or perhaps you secretly slip in an additional ‘entertainment charge’ for all of the above and more besides?

Or maybe you just keep your head down, get on with the job and just accept it as the many and varied aspects that entails?

    I’m just curious. 🙂

    Had one today.
An old couple, Yak Yak Yak. He was leaning over the Bosch dishwasher looking what I was doing with the m/sw assy. When I wanted to unplug he was there first, when I cleaned it all in the sink he turned on the tap, the missus jabbering in the background always in the way. An hour of “P*ss Off” under my breath.

Nice one Rob….I guess we should compile a scale of ‘excess’ charges, after all other trades stick on extra’s.

To start this off and for example, it’s £5 for anyone standing over me and smoking…..yuk!

If they get too close behind you, stand up and step back,if you don’t bump their head you stand on their toe.
£10.00 for “come round the side door”
£5.00 for no offer of tea, double if they are drinking one.
£10 for “this is becoming regular event”
    on and on etc

    Re: What charge for entertainment?

Did hear of one engineer who, when asked to go round the back rather than trample through the house charged an extra £1.00 per step.
It was rather a large house as well (apparently).
Nowt to do with my organisation of course.

    Re: What charge for entertainment?

I am lenient on people who have a sense of humour. Going to see a young woman later today who has left a string of messages on my answerphone over the last 24 hours, suggesting mild desperation (“loads of washing to do”) but tempered with realism (“perhaps you’re away on holiday”).
The last one, which prompted me to ring back without too much further delay, “Hi, it’s your stalker here from B… Street, ….” 😆
A refreshing change from the, “Oh, how terrible to have no gleaming white clothes to wear. If can’t get service within 12 hours we’ll have to go out and buy another one” brigade.

I think the ‘watchers’ bug me more these days than they ever have. Its one thing being watched doing a repair you’ve done a million times before and can do with your eyes closed like old Hotpoint carbons or whatever, but these days, lid off a 2 year old Zanussi scratching ones head trying to figure out if the PCB’s shagged or not and feeling the hot breath of your punter on your right lug hole 👿 God give me strength.

I really dont want any more money out of them, I just want to think of a way of saying will you PLEASE f*ck right off!!..in a polite fashion that wont cause offence! 😯
