I have a Tricity Bendix AW1201 and for the second time in its first 3 years its not getting up to temperature. I had the heater/thermostat replaced and I think its gone again. Does anyone know how to put it into diagnostic and the fault codes. I saw the service engineer do this when he came by rotating the programme dial. Is this a common problem with these.

When you say its not getting up to temperature do you mean its heating or not heating at all.
If you feel competant to do so you might look at the heater first.
If you don’t perhaps employing an engineer who can diagnose the problem may be best course of action to take.Fault codes & access to diagnostics are not available to the general public.

Its heating but its not getting hot enough. I think its the thermostat. I have the old heater element and it is part of the the thermostat is on the heater element. I could replace it again at £25 but is this a part that only lasts a year or two and I was wondering if I could bypass the thermostat or wire in a separate thermostat.

erm, yeh ok, if you want to potentially set fire to your kitchen.
ask yourself why the hell you have a thermostat connected to a heater.
be it in a washing machine, cooker or radiator etc.
its so the temperature can be controlled. to consider bypassing a stat is just mindless ignorance, and to even suggest trying that, would imply you’re far from adequately competent to work on your own machine. so from a friendly point of view, pls dont expect any engineer to further help if you cant recognise this, because the balance of responsability will be shifting from you to them…
besides, if you could wire in a separate stat, where would you obtain it from??

OK so forget that but do you know if these heater thermostat combination on this machine usually last just one or two years. My previous machine was a Creda and I had it for 12 years before the bearings went and that had no trouble with the thermostat presumably it was separate from the heater.

sold loads of aw1201s and been out to a few of them. none of the problems ive come across have involved the heater/ntc stat failing yet. was it elux/tricity/zanussi’s service force or some other group who replaced the heater last time???
biggest issues with them was blocked filters.
and what makes you think its not getting hot enough? are you washing a thermometer or one of those ultra-trendy-in-the-90’s global hypercolour colour changing t shirts??? or something liek that ???

I bought the 1201 from John Lewis and they picked up the fault under the 2nd year of the warranty and sent out Service Force to do the repair here in Leeds.
The first time I noticed my towels washed at 60c were not usable as long and so the next time I washed them I felt the door glass at regular intervals as it should have been heating and it only just got warm even just before the end of the wash cycle where as normally it would be hot to the touch. When the engineer came out he put it into fault diagnostic and then replaced the heater/thermostat he said with the genuine part 1325347100.
Its now doing the same again after just over 12 months, so maybe I’m just unlucky.

well. put it this way. if you didnt make a note of the engineers twiddles on the machine, and dont want to pay for an engineer to come out and assess the machine, all you can do is replace to fix.

im sure if you order it from ukwg you will get all the assistance required to help you fit it. there are tutorials elsewhere online and im sure a couple on here about it too.
The other thing to consider is that teh tags on the element might have corroded if its been poorly fitted and leaked onto it, the wires on the ntc can pull out easily, or if they haven been re-secured, been chaffed through, or as an outside possibility, massive limescale buildup on the ntc sensor

OK I will try and find a tutorial about replacing the heating element. I presume its behind some kind of panel at the back. I couldn’t see all the twiddles to put it into diagnostic and I suppose its a trade secret but I’m surprised its not available online by now but I cant find it. I managed to repair my PC monitor (faulty transistor and resistor) and get a schematic online but not how to put my washing machine into diagnostic. Anyway thanks for your suggestions.
