Hi guys, i’m hoping someone may be able to help me out with this please.

Our Whirlpool Condensor Dryer, has stopped producing any heat , even
though it runs ok, just wont dry anything.

I’ve been told it’s either the Element or the Thermostat as it’s had the problem once before and it was fixed by someone for £85.

I’ve also noticed the spade connector looks burnt – see pic, where can i get a new one and is it easy to replace?

Could i fix it all myself if i buy the parts or not?

    Any ideas??

    Thanks.

get a meter and check the thermostats first.
    plug out of course.
and you can also check the heater
most likely to be the thermostats.

Sorry to bump but still after an answer if anyone can tell us plus are they easy to fit ie just crimp?

    Would these do? http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=34145

I tested the Dryer and it is the Element that’s had it – got one on order.

    Thanks.

The BLUE one is the what you need.

They are very easy to fit using the correct crimping tools.

    Bump!

Firstly, i may have to start a new thread unless that is we/i manage to solve it in this one because i seem to have encountered another problem now 👿

Ok, here’s the deal, i have replaced the element and stats like for like BUT when i turned it on then pressed in the Start switch it tripped the electrics and blown the fuse 😕

Does anyone have any ideas why this would be? i’m stumped because all i did was replace the above mentioned, nothing else.

    Any advice MUCH appreciated.

    Thank you.

If it wasn’t tripping or blowing the fuse before you touched it then it is something you have done that is causing the problem.

We cannot possibly know just what that is as we cannot see the machine.

A thorough visual check of all of your handiwork followed by a complete test of all components with megger or multimeter is all anyone could suggest.

Possibly time for the cavalry methinks. 😉

    Thanks the reply iadom.

It never tripped before i replaced the part so i’m guessing yes it must be something i have done but i’m stuggling to think what as all i did was replace like for like.

Could it possibly be caused by me putting a wrong wire in the incorrect terminal? for example a non insulated spade connector into the wrong stat terminal?

    Very puzzling.

As I have already said, you will need to give it a very careful visual, its possible the the stat terminals are touching something they shouldn’t.

They are quite close to the retaining clip and all four stat connections should be sheathed if possible.

the problem is that all the wires are brown, take a look at your original photo and try and identify which wires go where,
two green sheathes to the bottom stats 2 no sheaths to the top stat, 2 white/clear sheaths to the element, the wires are thicker to the heater.

My own stupidity first time round plus being in a rush mainly caused the problem :rolls:

I have since told the better half off since i have now blamed her 😈

Two wires were put back into the incorrect place that was all due to rushing the job as i said.
