Hi all going to see a neff b1420 built in oven tomorrow,
the problem reported is that if the thermostat is set just below 150 degrees it will work all day no problem, but as soon as you go above 150 degrees the oven trips the electric, the only thought going through my mind at the moment is, that the top cooling fan is not working, therefore activating a toc which in turn gets to hot then trips the electric, any thoughts welcome.

Think fan element is cheap enough for these. I’d try that first before imagining all sorts of complicated faults . Check fan speed too. If it seems a bit slow, pull cooker out and lubricate fan bearings.

Mike do you not think if it was fan element it would trip no matter what temperature, after all the element will heat till the regulator cuts it out, so if it was element, i would have thought it would trip no matter what temperature, i know we get elements that go open circuit after a short period of time after the appliance is switched on, so i understand your reasoning.
and yes your probably right, i may be putting to much thought into this, and like you say, the element aint that expensive so trying one would be a quick way to rule it out or possibly fix the problem.
    thanks for your thoughts.

Yep, I think your on the right track with that theory Darren.:D

Sorry, I thought you meant tripping the trip-switch at the consumer unit.

Thanks for comments, and Mike you seem to be right, replaced element and everything seems ok.
but to be honest still dont understand why, its not like you can turn on an element to half heat, it goes full blast till temperature reached,
    could someone educate me.lol
also like to thank Martin for his input.
thanks again Darren Bewildered. but happy its working.

    Re: Neff b1420

when this has happened on the odd occasion to us, and has also baffled us, only conclusion we have come to is expansion/contraction through heat…

i.e. as element heats up, it expands, whereby more prolonged heating expands it further, stretching the insulation so a hairline split allows a short to earth. hence short bursts of heating say to 80-150* as you have experienced seem to work fine, because it hasnt been hot long enough to expand. however, if you look at the element youll almost always spot a “floppy” bit or slightly bloated

It’s a bit odd but no less odd than your original theory would have been. I mean, why would a toc opening blow the trip?
The hotter the oven temperature rises, the slower the rate that heat can escape from the element surface. It will draw max. current right away but the air blowing over it keeps it (relatively) cool.
