Good evening everyone and here’s wishing you a Happy New Year.

We have a Beko WMA510W washing machine which turns slowly instead of spinning. 🙁 The pump is working and the machine drains OK.

Following the advice on the forum 💡 I have checked the brushes on the motor.

Can anyone advise what the minimum length should be please:?:

The current ones are 12mm and 10mm respectively, measured from the worn end to the place where they disappear into the holders.

    Regards,

    Springnuts. :rolls:

With the machine unplugged and the motor connector disconnected check the 2nd & 3rd spade connections on the block (two yellow wires) using 200 Ohms on a multimeter… Whilst connected to those two spades spin the motor… the reading should alter… if it does not then the tacho at the rear f the motor needs changing

If the tacho were at fault surely the motor would not turn slowly at all, instead it would only run flat out? 😕

spot on martin… that sounds more like a pcb fault

BUT… what exactly did you have in the machine?
have you run it on empty to see if it spins?
if it spins with no clothes in, its could well just be an out of balanced load

    Thanks everyone.

The machine had a single but reasonably heavy when wet jumper (oh, and one small sock) in at the time. It does spin on empty.

I had a look at what I assume is the capacitor (top rear of the machine – RHS when viewed from front) and that has no obvious problem.

    Regards and thanks again,

    Springnuts.

No, that is the mains filter, it stops radio and TV interference, nothing else. 😉

As helo_75 has said, a badly loaded machine which the out of balance detection has prevented from spinning, in other words its trying to stop you from breaking it. 🙂

    Thanks iadom,

I will try washing a few towels – hopefully that will allow the machine to balance itself where a single item did not.

    Hi springnuts,

There is an interesting read above by Dave-Conway on this very subject.

As you can see washers can be pretty clever 😀

I advised a friend of mine to read this ‘sticky’ as she was always moaning that her machine would not work when she put a hand washed item in for spinning :rolls: I had a difficult time trying to explain it to her so told her to read what the experts say!

There are several posts on here regarding the same ‘phenomenon’ so you arent alone. I dont understand why most washer manuals dont mention anything about ‘what can happen if you try to spin single items etc’ :rolls:

You may be interested to know that all modern washing machines incorporate electronic balance sensing control that will abort spinning until the wash load has been distributed correctly. That, in most cases, the electronics will allocate a set period of time for load distribution & re-distribution sensing. Where the machine tumbles back and forth to enable the clothing untangle and be repositioned prior to further spin attempts.

On average, many machines try to redistribute around 10 times and if the load will still not balance correctly the machine simply aborts and the programme ends.

I think you will find that most if not all owners manuals incorporate a ‘Trouble shooting’ section that refers to this likely phenomena. Specifically for Beko owners is states: Q =Machine did not spin? A= There may be an imbalance of laundry in the machine therefore the machine may have completed without spinning. The automatic spin correction system may have been activated due to the imbalanced distribution of laundry in the drum. Laundry should be rearranged and re-spun.

Very often too, most owners don’t read the user manual, don’t refer to it in the case something goes wrong at some point in time or can’t remember where they put it. The perfect scenario toward plying man against machine where the machine wins every time! 😈

    hi martin,

You are right, most people dont read the manual front to back, i usually do when i buy something new.

I have not read the ‘spin unbalance’ bit in any of the machines i have previously owned but i would suspect i am behind the times here and that new machines do mention this, (glad to hear this) however being in the trouble shooting section that usually doesnt need to be read (in some peoples opinion) until such time as they may have mislead the manual :rolls: I think this is such a common occurance nowadays that it should be included within the spin cycle section, thats IMHO anyway. Personally have a drawer where all such paperwork goes, in fact i recently found a manual from my old twin-tub, long since gone to ‘washer heaven’ 😉

Sorry for straying off-topic guys but….that twin tub user guide may be worth a few bob on eBay, don’t bin it.

Just done three Beko’s with the same fault Martin.. Two of them (WMA510 & WM5100) had this exact same problem as described above and one (WMA510) was trying to ramp up speed for a second and then just tumbling. Replacement tacho 372205505 cured each one
