ParticipantWatching the above thread on an American forum, basically the question is what basic tools do you take in your carry kit when you go to do a repair call? on The American side answers ranged from 3 Nutdrivers, a Multibit screwdriver & a pair of Slip joint pliers to a Toolbag weighing in at 66Lb in weight with just what the guy calls the basics. Wondering what all you guys carry in comparison?

Ah those just in case bits: You don’t use them often, but dare take them out & you can guarantee your going to need them 🙂

I probably carry far too much in the toolbox but in Oxford it can be a good few minutes walk from the van to the machine, and so I always try and carry any tool I might need + the part(s) I might need to use.
My toolkit has: –
Megger, multimeter and earth loop tester
Powered screwdriver + selection of bits
Flat, philips, torx, socket, insulated electrical & neon screwdrivers.
Hammer, club hammer & drift for bearings.
Bent nosed pliers, combination pliers, fine nosed pliers, crimping pliers and cutting pliers.
Full set of metric & some imperial sockets plus three sizes of rachets, as well as T50 & hex socket for Zanussi bolts.
Spare suspension spring for removing suspension springs.
Set of spanners.
UKWG fault code guide, receipt book, machine stickers with our phone number on, PAT test stickers & GPRS credit card machine.
Electrical tape and comm stick.
Selection of spade connections, wire connectors, screws, bolts etc.…and probably a load of other stuff. What can I say… it saves a gym membership :).

Geeze, carrying that lot to every Job you should have called yourself Garth 😆 But I know where your coming from, when I was working in London I used to do the same with my kit.
What I carry now: Non contact tester, Dmm, Megger & Loop testers.
Pliers, cutters, snipe nose, bent snipe nose, Corbin pliers, Slip joint pliers, Pump pliers & 8″ shifter.
Neon, set of Insulated drivers, Large driver, set Hex keys, set Torx bits, T10/15/20 Torx drivers, Stubby Flat & No2.
5-13mm Nutdrivers & handle, 8-19mm short Combi spanners, 13mm Ratchet spanner, Stanley knife, Capacitor discharger, Mini maglite.
Comm stick, small Half round file, 2 Short Jump leads, Extending Mirror.
Tape, Fuses, Connectors & Cable ties.Apart from the test gear, it all fits neatly in a 16″ box & gets me through the majority of things. All the heavy stuff stays in the 4×4 until needed.

And when I have my catering engineer hat on, I see too many things to ensure I prefer making my own 😯No argument from me there, I rarely accept a cuppa from any customer but especially not in a lot of commercial kitchens I go into, Yuk.

Ah Paul I think you missed the point of the question mate, it was’nt what do you take with you in the van or stock you carry. It was what Tools do you carry in to every Job in your carry in box.
