ParticipantNo mention of electrical safety checks. And he forgot to grease the seal. And his toolkit,… well! But, on the whole, a very nice young man. 😆

“And there’s absolutely NO WAY you could hold all those tabs in at the same time…”
That’s a bit amateur. Obviously doesn’t have access to enough steak knives. 😆

“Fill it with water , above the line of the seal to test its watertight” …………But don’t worry about the sump hose and heater element holes hahaha !!!!
Hope my bosses don’t see this or i won’t be allowed any extra time to do the next one i’m booked for 😆 😆

Yeah, I thought that was rather misleading, too. Though the LG I did today was nearly that easy. Which was surprisng because he told me it had been noisy for a month.
Great idea putting the washing machine on the kitchen table to work on it though. I’ll have to ask the customer to do that ready for when I get there next time. 😆

I’m sure he uses a rubber or plastic mallet to knock em out. I dont want to watch it again can anyone confirm.
Maybe thats where I’ve been going wrong I hit em to hard with a heavy lump hammer.May 19, 2011 at 2:18 am #351574gandh1

yes, rubber ended mallet. and if only every customer who wanted new bearings called us before they had ground into the shaft, or snapped a spider leg life would be so much easier… 😛
PS why did he say to chisel off the tabs and then warn you not to damage the tabs a few mins later ?!?

I was very impressed how he used his ratchet to knock the heating element bolt in (why did he remove the element and door seal?) or the small bolt to knock the bearing into place using a toffee hammer not even going in to the silicon thing!. The hammer i use is much bigger then his because nearly every single bearing job i have ever done needs a hell of a lot more persuasion.
Oh and another thing right at the beginning did he say the bearings was ok on the machine? anyone can change bearings that don’t need changing. Wait until they have been going for the last few months and then the customer says “i thought it was getting a bit louder” Then show us how easy it is with kids and pets running round the place in a tiny kitchen.
You just know some numpty is going to watch that and think i can do that it is easy!Rant over

Well, I reckon’ he’s trying to get on telly ….. Blue Peter.
To be fair though, the video’s purpose is to sell parts to people who have scarcely any tools, so making them believe they can DIY no problem is what it’s all about. They’ll mostly not be bothered to try sending the parts back or will have opened them, so job done! Then one of us gets called in to put the heap of parts back together :rolls: .
Including the front counterweight :rolls: .

Yes but when we get there and tell them how much it is going to cost, they say ‘but it only takes 18 minutes to do the job and I have done half of it for you’ 👿May 19, 2011 at 5:05 pm #351579Martin

The quality of the video production to be fair is spot on though. A big improvement on the bad old days, long ago, when all there was to be had just the ‘How To Change Bosch Motor Brushes’ that popped up on YouTube. 😉
The future is looking good for all manner of video’s out there showing folks exactly how to repair their…..well anything really….who needs a repairman anyway? 😈
