ParticipantHad a good one today I just had to let everyone share this one.
Indeshit dishwasher, fault code A01 (flooding into base).
Unplugged for safety and tipped machine backwards to see if water ran out from the base. Bone dry 😕
Machine on it’s side, base off, then the smell hit me, dead mouse in there with lots of little brown things which I took to be grain or bird seed, neither……… MAGGOTS :eeek:The mouse had done itself in on the wiring to the antiflood switch then obviously been “struck” by a bluebottle, maggots forced themselves under the float.
Couldn’t find this in UKWG fault codes

Anyone one else had a good un like this?

Over the years I have had several electrocuted rodents in washers and dryers but one of the strangest such faults was caused by an earwig in a Hotpoint top loader.
This machine had the off white/yellow Crouzet type control timer and this little blighter had crawled right inside the timer and was shorted out across one of the internal switches, the timer was goosed.

Having to scrape out a dead TOAD, just a bit smaller than the vent hose diameter from a Hoover TV30 dryer. It got all the way to the motor fan…the customer didn’t know until they put the dryer on. These toads apparently used to shelter in an outhouse when it rained. They were meant to come through a modified cat flap, but this one toad mistook the open vent hose for the flap. Ouch…
I can still smell & feel it… It was like squeezing a filled water bomb. Also had an E1 fault on a Hoover new wave caused by a slug shorting on the module.

Ice build-up behind chest freezer cabinet freezes washing machine inlet hose.
Absorbsion fridge heater element dropped under my van prompts police bomb scare.

I forgot about this one from the other week, new series Bosch DW. tripping RCD. Looked inside and spotted the suppressor was blackened, easy job. Stuck my fingers into it find a slimy mess, half incinerated slug lying across the terminals, still makes me cringe.
One thing for sure we deserve every penny we get in this industry, bit like plumbers sticking their hands around the toilet bend and up sewer pipes. No wonder some people prefer to work in a bank, all they have to put up with is the verbal type shyteJuly 8, 2011 at 8:09 am #355076Martin

cockroaches very common in some parts of north london, if they have roaches then usually the module/pcb attracts them and then-module goes faulty

The strangest one I came across was about 25 years ago. A customer called me out to a Zanussi washing machine. Turned out this guy had just done some time at Her Majesties pleasure. He told me that the machine worked perfectly before he went away and that he had left the door ajar to stop the machine from smelling as he knew he was’nt coming back for a while. When he returned he put his washing in, it filled up and overflowed!
Turned out a housefly had flew into the drum, got through one of the holes in the drum, couldn’t get out again and looked for an escape route, crawled up the tube to the pressure switch, got right up to the switch and could get no further, thus blocking the hole to the switch.
I found the fly in the pressure switch with it’s wings tucked back and it’s head jammed against the hole in the pressure switch. -
