Going out to this tomorrow American top loader not emptying properly, have never worked on one before, just wondering if any one knows how easy they are to work on or if there is anything engineer should know? Cheers Kez

Given enough access to the front of the machine they are actually quite easy to work on. The pump attaches to the back of the motor so you may be able to pop it off by tipping the machine back. If not then IIRC you just need to undo the back panel, release and tip back the top deck then the rest of the cabinet just lifts away to reveal all.

as Clive says as long as you have good frontal access these are very easy to strip down.if you want a bit of tech info let me have your email add.paul

That sounds like the 3 piece motor coupling.

Take the outer case off then un-clip drain pump from motor and un-clip the motor from the gear box to find it.

    Hope that Helps

No need to take off outer case just tilt m/c back unclip pump unbolt two motor clips and remove place motor on floor no need to unplug as wires are long enough replace drive coupling then replace motor and pump job done.while you are down there you could spray some wd40 on the brake shoe as this has a tendency to bite !
