Before everyone shouts and says throw it on the tip, I have a Hotpoint 9901, by the way it is marvellous when operating, that has been standing idle for a few months during a move. It now over heats and does not progress through the programmes as I remember, take for ever. Has anyone, or does someone know where I can obtain the service manual or schematics book. I don’t really want to throw it out and am sure I can resolve this problem with the manual. It works from rinses etc. but seemed to stay on the wash cycle for an age and the glass front got really hot.Any help would be greatly appreciated and would help to keep my 2 brain cells active

Had a look on the web but i can’t find a free service manual sorry. The fault sounds like a possible broken wire to the thermistor or a faulty thermistor. If memory serves me correct there are 2 types but i can only find the later type but looks like it comes with the new connections to make it fit. I can’t remember the ohms that you should get through it so someone else with a better memory than me mite be able to help. Thermistor part no. HPT169430 will cost about 30 quid. Hotpoints are also known for faulty timers so check for burnt connections.

The manual does not give the thermistor rating. The early thermistor had two small pin type terminals which were prone to failure. The kit always comes with a new connector to cure this problem.
Fault can also be due to PCB or even timer failure, both rather expensive to contemplate at this late stage. 😥
The machine was first introduced in 1986 after all. :eeek:
Unless you live in a hard water area and have done plenty of hot washes its likely that the alloy backplate of the outer drum could be badly corroded by now.

Certainly is symptomatic of Thermistor problem but hopefully it is just a broken wire connection to it. Looking up the part number of a new Thermistor for you (Pt No: C00169430) I was staggered to realise that they now run to over £28 – £30….. blimey I’ve got 4 (new boxed ones) chucking about in my garage, I must get them up on eBay pretty sharpish! 😯 8)
